Stop guessing your next move—let a Personal Development Plan guide your progress. A while back, I mentored a professional named Rahul, who felt he was being repeatedly overlooked for promotions. We conducted a competency mapping session and discovered a key gap in his ability to work cross-functionally and lead diverse teams. 🧩 Rather than feeling discouraged, Rahul saw this as an opportunity. We built a Personal Development Plan (PDP) to close those gaps. By enrolling in relevant courses and taking on cross-departmental projects, Rahul not only improved his skills but also earned the promotion he had been aiming for. 👉 What is a Personal Development Plan (PDP)? A PDP is a roadmap for your career growth, detailing the specific skills you need to develop to advance in your role. Here are the Key Sections every PDP should include: 💢Self-Assessment: Identify your current strengths and areas for improvement based on feedback or a competency mapping session. 💢Goal Setting: Set clear, measurable goals for what you want to achieve in your career (e.g., leadership skills, cross-functional collaboration). 💢Action Plan: Outline the steps you’ll take to close the gaps, such as enrolling in courses, seeking mentorship, or participating in projects. 💢Timeline: Assign deadlines to each action item to track your progress and stay on course. 💢Evaluation: Regularly assess your progress through self-reflection or feedback from peers and supervisors. 💡 Key Action Points: ⚜️Use competency mapping to identify specific skill gaps. ⚜️Develop a Personal Development Plan to close those gaps. ⚜️Engage in practical experiences like cross-functional projects or targeted training. Feeling stuck in your career? Start building your personal development plan today and tackle those skill gaps head-on! #CareerDevelopment #SkillGaps #PersonalDevelopmentPlan #LeadershipSkills #CompetencyMapping #ProfessionalGrowth

When Andrew* first walked into our coaching session, he was a trapped man. He had a good job in business development at a major corporation - everything was good… on paper but he itched for more. He wanted to leave but he felt trapped as his family’s breadwinner and a mountain of financial obligations. In the initial job exploration, he kept coming back with jobs from industries that sounded good on paper, low hanging fruits like - Business development in Oil & Gas. Sales in Big tech. Account Manager in Chemical companies. Options that were logical next steps based on his resume. But I pushed him on these - “Are you truly excited about these options? Do you see yourself spending the next decade buildingy our expertise in Oil & Gas? Or are you just drawn to them because they sound good and seem easy and logical to move into next based on your experiences?” His world felt small and opportunities limited to what he was familiar with. In spite of the potential that he had. But here’s the thing about potential: It whispers before it roars. During subsequent career coaching sessions, we peeled back the layers. Asking questions like: What truly lights you up? What makes you feel alive? And at first, the answer was nothing. No industry. No interest. No spark. Because he had spent his whole life delaying gratification. Focusing on doing the ‘right’ thing even if he had on interest in it. That now, decades later, he had no clue what it was he was even interested in anymore. Then he mentioned a chance conversation with a friend who had bought a few preschools. And for Andrew, it was fascinating. Thanks to his background in investment banking, he already knew how to value companies, improve efficiencies and ultimately sell for a profit. In addition, owning a business would give him time to spend with his children - something that mattered a great deal to him. So he started buying businesses. And building a portfolio that would allow him to build a new career and life for himself and his family. Andrew is a classic example of someone who went from believing that his next job had to be ‘a variation of what I already do’ to figuring out what he was truly excited about. A process that happened because our multiple coaching sessions helped him overcome his limiting beliefs. Realise that the world is full of choices. And that the most significant career moves aren’t always linear. Instead, they’re about finding the intersection of your skills, passions and deeper purpose. To everyone who still feels trapped in a job that doesn’t deserve you, know this: Your next chapter is waiting. It might look nothing like what you expect. And sometimes, all you need is someone to help you see the possibilities out there. P/S: Does Andrew’s story resonate? If you need help figuring out your next chapter and unlocking the career opportunities that exist, DM me CHOICES and we’ll get started! *Pseudonym to protect confidentiality

For years, professionals have been told the same thing. Be objective. Stay rational. Stick to the facts. Observe what’s happening. Make the right call. Move on The advice came from a good place… from a belief that good decision-making is about clarity, logic, and control Most of us listened We learned how to present How to structure arguments How to stay composed in meetings We built careers on being “measured” and “professional.” But something doesn’t quite hold under pressure Because in the moments that matter… we’re not just observing what’s happening We’re interpreting it. Fast Filling in gaps. Drawing conclusions. Reacting All of us do it “That escalated quickly” “I thought I was being clear” “Not sure why that landed like that” The problem isn’t intent It’s that observation and judgement quietly blur together And most of us were never shown how to separate them in real time That used to be more manageable Slower environments Clearer hierarchies More time to correct course But the world we’re operating in now? Faster Messier Higher stakes And when we misread a situation, it shows up straight away: 👉🏿 trust gets damaged 👉🏿 bias gets reinforced 👉🏿 good people make poor calls Not because people are bad… …but because pressure speeds up perception. What’s interesting is a lot of us already have tools that should help Things like Insights Discovery Profiles we’ve seen Colours we recognise But for many, it stayed as a workshop… then life carried on The 29k Club is looking forward to a masterclass about making that kind of thinking useful. Perception: Observation vs Judgement with Toyin Akinyemi We’ll keep it simple and practical: 👉🏿 what you’re actually observing vs what you’re adding to it 👉🏿 how to catch yourself before reacting 👉🏿 how different people can see the same situation differently 👉🏿 how to use tools like Insights Discovery in real conversations If you’ve used it before… this will bring it to life. If you haven’t… you’ll still walk away with something practical. No slides for the sake of it No jargon Just real situations and better ways to handle them If you’ve ever walked away from a conversation thinking “that didn’t go how I expected”… this will be useful. 💬 Quick one: What’s the most powerful or interesting way you’ve seen Insights Discovery used at work? Ways that actually made a difference. 👇🏿 Share one example if you’ve got it in the comments. Drop “29K” / DM me if you want to hear more about the community. The gap between what’s happening and what we think is happening… that’s where most of the work is 🖤

Why Harvard Business School’s case method is a powerful learning tool It forces respectful disagreement, makes you speak up (so your thinking gets sharper), and turns the room into a lab where you learn from everyone—and remember it because you discovered it yourself, not because someone lectured you. 3 practical moves for your next meeting/class (and why they work): • Make the call first. Open with a one-sentence decision (e.g., “Approve the plan, but cap spend at X”). It surfaces trade-offs immediately and invites people to challenge the choice, not wander through updates. • Ask for one credible counterexample. “Who can make the best case against this?” Assign the role if needed. It exposes hidden assumptions, prevents groupthink, and usually improves the final decision. • End with ‘What changed your mind?’ Have 2–3 people share one update. It normalizes revising beliefs in public—real learning, not performative debate. Full post on The Edge (≈5 min): https://lnkd.in/eBhRBqxw #Leadership #Learning #DecisionMaking #Communication #TheEdge

🎭 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠: 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐁𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐊𝐢𝐝𝐬 🎭 What if I told you the best leadership lessons don’t come from books or PowerPoint slides—but from play? During our recent Managerial Effectiveness Training, we put this to the test. Instead of just discussing strategies, we engaged in activities that made managers step out of their comfort zones and into a world of hands-on learning. And the results? Transformational. ✨ The Standout Exercise: 🏗 The Tower Challenge – Teams were given limited resources to build the tallest, most stable structure possible. What started as a fun, seemingly simple task quickly turned into a real-world simulation of decision-making under pressure, resource management, and teamwork. 💡 Key Takeaways: 🔹 Planning Matters – Those who spent time strategizing before jumping in performed better. 🔹 Collaboration is Key – The most successful teams weren’t the ones with the best ideas, but the ones who communicated and adapted quickly. 🔹 Constraints Drive Creativity – Limited resources forced participants to think outside the box—just like in real-life business scenarios. At the end of the session, one participant said: "I never realized how much leadership and problem-solving mirror real life until I actually experienced it." 🎯 Why It Works: Studies show that we retain 90% of what we learn through experience, compared to just 10% from passive listening. When we engage in hands-on learning, the lessons become unforgettable. This is the power of experiential training—it doesn’t just teach concepts; it ingrains them. Want to create an impactful learning experience for your leadership team? Not long ago, I sat down with a client who felt completely stuck in her career transition. She had skills. She had experience. She even had ideas. What she didn’t have? Clarity on what was next – and the confidence to make the leap. In our session, we combined neuroscience-based coaching with the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method. Instead of listing options on paper, she built her thoughts. Each brick became a piece of her story – her values, strengths, fears, and hidden ambitions. Halfway through, she looked at her model, paused, and said: “I didn’t realise this was what I really wanted until I saw it in front of me.” By the end, she had a vision that wasn’t just in her head – it was tangible, visual, and deeply hers. That’s the power of making ideas visible and engaging the brain in new ways. Career transitions don’t have to feel like wandering in the dark. Sometimes, all you need is the right conversation… and a handful of bricks. 💬 Have you ever discovered something about yourself in an unexpected way? #CareerDevelopment #LEGOseriousplay #CoachingJourney #CareerTransition #UnlockPotential
