Edit individual and multiple work items

The preview panel is replacing the old detail view toggle
The preview panel is now the default experience for all users in global search and list views. We’re in the process of rolling out these changes, so your Jira space might not yet reflect the new experience. Read more about this change

After performing your search, you can action individual work items as well as multiple work items at once.

The list of work items will remain constant, even if you change a work item so that it doesn't meet the original search criteria. This is to give you a constant set of work items to work with when triaging work items.

View a work item

Select the key of the work item to view the work item in a preview panel where you can review all its details.

Edit a work item

You can edit a work item and perform actions like updating fields, transitioning its status, or logging time on it.

There are a few ways to edit a work item:

  • Select a field directly in the list to update it (only available for some fields including summary, assignee, and status).

  • Scroll to the last column and select More actions (), then select from the options.

  • Select a work item key to view the work item in a preview panel where you can make changes.

Edit multiple work items

Bulk operations let you edit multiple work items at once. These actions include transitioning work items, deleting work items, moving work items, and watching or unwatching work items.

To edit multiple work items:

  1. Use Ctrl (Windows) or Command (Mac) and select multiple work items.

  2. Select More actions () in the top right of the screen.

  3. Select Bulk change work items.
