В написании глагола с окончанием -ing есть свои правила.
В большинстве случаев -ing просто добавляется к основе: work – working, stay –
staying.
Если глагол оканчивается на -e, эта буква убирается и добавляется -ing: make –
making, save – saving. В случае окончания -ie, буква “i” меняется на “y”: die –
dying, lie – lying.
Если глагол оканчивается на согласную, которой предшествует гласная, и при
этом ударение падает на последний слог, то согласная удваивается: run –
running, admit – admitting.
Независимо от ударения удваивается последняя согласная “l”, если ей
предшествует гласная: cancel – cancelling, control – controlling.
