Present Continuous

O Present Continuous é composto por um verbo principal e um verbo auxiliar.


Utiliza-se o verbo to be no Simple Present (presente simples) como auxiliar e ao
verbo principal, é acrescida a terminação –ing.
Sujeito + verbo to be + verbo com -ing + complemento
Exemplo:
She is watching TV. (Ela está assistindo TV.)

Forma Negativa do Present Continuous


Na forma negativa, acrescenta-se o not depois do verbo to be,
Sujeito + verbo to be + not + verbo com -ing + complemento
Exemplo:
She is not watching TV. (Ela não está assistindo TV.)

Forma Interrogativa do Present Continuous


Na forma interrogativa, o verbo auxiliar to be aparece no início da frase. O padrão
da estrutura das frases interrogativas é o seguinte:
Verbo to be + sujeito + verbo com -ing + complemento
Exemplo:
Is she watching TV? (Ela está assistindo TV?)

Exemplos com do Present Continuous


Forma afirmativa (affirmative form): They are studying for the test. (Eles estão
estudando para o teste.)
Forma negativa (negative form): They are not studying for the test. (Eles não
estão estudando para o teste.)
Forma interrogativa (interrogative form): Are they studying for the test? (Eles
estão estudando para o teste?)
Quando o verbo principal termina em –e e é precedido de consoante, retira-se
a vogal e acrescenta-se o –ing

o dance (dançar) – dancing / To take (pegar, tomar) - taking

To make (fazer) – making / T o come (vir, chegar) - coming

Quando o verbo termina com –ie, troca-se essa terminação por –y e


acrescenta-se –ing.
quando a última consoante é w ou x, ela não é dobrada.
Present Simple - Present Continuous

O Simple Present, também chamado de Present Simple, descreve uma ação


habitual e atual ocorrida no presente.
As frases negativas e interrogativas são construídas com os verbos
auxiliares do e does.

Affirmative form Negative form Interrogative form

I love I do not love Do I love?

You love You do not love Do you love?

He/she/it loves He/she/it does not love Does he/she/it love?

We love We do not love Do we love?

You love You do not love Do you love?

They love They do not love Do they love?

Nas frases afirmativas, esses auxiliares só são utilizados em respostas curtas.

Exemplo: "Do you have a brother?" "Yes, I do.

Present Continuous
Descreve uma ação que está ocorrendo no presente, ou seja, no momento em
que se fala. É formado com o verbo auxiliar to be e um verbo principal.

I am loving I am not loving Am I loving?

You are loving You are not loving Are you loving?

He/she/it is loving He/she/it is not loving Is he/she/it loving?

We are loving We are not loving Are we loving?

Simple Past
yesterday (ontem), the day before yesterday (anteontem), last night (ontem .)
last year (ano passado), last month (mês passado),last week (semana
passada), ago (atrás), etc.
We did not go to school yesterday.
His birthday was the day before yesterday.
She studied Math last night.
I traveled1/ travelled2 to Brazil last year.
They visited their uncle last month.
I called you three days ago
We learned how to dance samba last week

 Simple Past
A formação básica do Simple Past é feita com o uso do auxiliar did nas formas
negativa e interrogativa, e com o acréscimo de –ed, –ied ou –d ao final do
verbo principal no infinitivo, sem o to, na forma afirmativa.
Exemplo: verbo to dance (dançar - regular)

Affirmative Negative Interrogative

I danced I did not dance Did I dance?

You danced You did not dance Did you dance?

He danced He did not dance Did he dance?

She danced She did not dance Did she dance?

It danced It did not dance Did it dance?

We danced We did not dance Did we dance?

You danced You did not dance Did you dance?

They danced They did not dance Did they dance?

Affirmative Negative Interrogative

I flew I did not fly Did I fly?

You flew You did not fly Did you fly?

He flew He did not fly Did he fly?


Affirmative Negative Interrogative

She flew She did not fly Did she fly?

Affirmative form (forma afirmativa)


Para usar os verbos regulares em frases afirmativas no Simple Past, basta
mudar a terminação do verbo de acordo com as seguintes regras:
Aos verbos regulares terminados em –e, acrescenta-se somente o –d no final
do verbo:
 to love (amar) – loved
 to lie (mentir) – lied
 to arrive (chegar) – arrived
 to like (gostar) – liked
Aos verbos regulares terminados em consoante+vogal+consoante (CVC),
duplica-se a última consoante e acrescenta-se o –ed:
 stop (parar) – stopped
 control (controlar) – controlled
 plan (planejar) – planned
 prefer (prefer) – preferred
Aos verbos terminados em –y precedido de consoante, retira-se o y e
acrescenta-se o –ied:
 to study (estudar) – studied
 to worry (preocupar-se) – worried
 to cry (chorar) – cried
 to try (tentar) – tried
Aos verbos terminados em –y precedido de vogal, acrescenta-se somente o –ed:
 enjoy (aproveitar) – enjoyed
 stay (ficar) – stayed
 play (brincar; jogar) – played
Irregular verbs (verbos irregulares)

A formação de frases na afirmativa no Simple Past


Sujeito + verbo + complemento
Exemplo: She liked the English teacher. (Ela gostou da professora de inglês).

Negative Form (Forma Negativa)


Para a construção de frases negativas no Simple Past, o verbo did é empregue
como verbo auxiliar.
Sujeito + did + not + verbo principal + complemento
Exemplo: She did not like the English teacher. (Ela não gostou da professora
de inglês)
Obs.: a forma contraída de did not é didn’t.

Interrogative Form (Forma Interrogativa)


Da mesma maneira que acontece na forma negativa, o did é o verbo auxiliar
utilizado para as frases interrogativas no Simple Past .
Did + sujeito + verbo principal + complemento

Did she like the English teacher?


Obs.: somente o verbo auxiliar (did) é conjugado no Simple Past. Não é necessário
conjugar o verbo principal.
