Syllabus 246LE Letteratura italiana della modernità 23-24

Contenuti :

testo Cento anni di letteratura italiana, 1910-2010, a cura di Marco Bazzocchi, Torino, Einaudi,
Appartengono dunque a generi diversi.
ritenute utili all’approfondimento di speci ci aspetti.
I modulo: Inizio secolo; II modulo:
modulo, orientativamente, cinque saranno dedicate all’inquadramento generale degli autori,
volume.

Contenuti in inglese
The teaching is of a general nature and it retraces the history of Italian literature from the rst
decade of the twentieth century to the 2000s. For this purpose, the teacher intends to adopt as a
textbook Cento anni di letteratura italiana, 1910-2010, edited by M. Bazzocchi, Turin, Einaudi,
2021, Turin, Einaudi, 2021. The book can be purchased also in digital format.
Following the chronological and argumentative scansion of the volume and integrating the teaching
program with educational materials shared during class, the teacher aims to create a journey
whose historico-literary stages are instrumental in guiding the student’s choice of the works to be
studied for the examination. The teacher has singled out seven groups of authors whose works
(the date of rst publication is reported) have been selected as representative and whose reading
is considered compatible with the linguistic skills that a three-year student is expected to [Link]

works to be studied are therefore seven, one for each group. They are texts in prose (novels, short
stories, essays, diaries) and in poetry. They thus belong to different genres. Of course it will not be
possible to dedicate a monographic lesson to each work, but the aim of the lessons is to provide
the student with the tools, of historico-literary and formal nature, suf cient to recognize the artistic
speci city of each work, in relation to the author’s literary personality and individual history, and in
relation to the historical contingencies and social demands to which the work responds and against
which it measures itself. To achieve this goal, the teacher will integrate, in class, some critical
readings, deemed useful for deepening some issues. The explanation of the readings, considered
as supplementary teaching material and published on the moodle course platform, 246LE
Letteratura italiana della modernità 22, as Dispensa, forms an integral part of the exam
preparation, regardless of the chosen work. The teaching is roughly divided into ve modules of
nine hours each; it is divided according to a homogeneity criterion, following the ve parts of the
volume.
Module I: Beginning of the century; Module II: In the orbit of modernism;
Module III: From the end of fascism to the fties; Module IV: The two decades of the mutation;
Module V: From the 80s to 2.0.
Amongst the nine hours reserved for each module, approximately ve will be dedicated to the
general classi cation of the authors, and four to the reading of the text.
However, the student must take into account that some lessons will not follow a precise
chronological order but will deal with transversal aspects and issues of literature understood not
only as a document but as an artistic language. Furthermore, the periodization is indicative but not
insurmountable, since some authors may be active in different decades.

insurmountable, since some authors may be active in different decades.
The volume is divided into ve parts. The rst three, pp. 1-287, are mandatory reading, as they are
preparatory to understanding and interpreting more recent literary history. The periodization
therefore starts from the rst decade of the twentieth century up to the sixties. These rst three
parts correspond to the rst six groups of works being read.
The seventh and last group of texts, includes authors who nd room in the fourth or fth part of the
volume. The student must therefore keep reading the volume according to the text he intends to
prepare, choosing either the fourth part, pp. 288-418, or the fth part, pp. 418-515. With regard to
recently published works, therefore excluded from the manual, the student will adopt the notions
relating to the literature taken into consideration until the 2000s, making the most of which he will
be able to discuss contents and structure of the chosen work.

formato.

Examination is made up of an interview conducted in order to test the student's acquisition of
appropriate historico-literary knowledge, and the ability to conduct an analytical commentary on the
text, based on the skills acquired during the course. The student will bring with him the list of the
works he has prepared. He will have to know precisely the date of publication of each one of them.
He will also have to know the exact date and place of birth and, possibly, of death, of each author.
The teacher will therefore ask the candidate to introduce the work by specifying the literary current
to which it belongs, the genre, the circumstances in which it was written and published, the
contents, the metric forms (in case of poetry) or structural forms (in case of a work in prose).
The teacher will ask for the reading and commentary, at her own discretion, of some passages of
the chosen work. Since the teacher will not have all the works belonging to the course program at
her disposal, the student will have to bring the texts to the exam location, in any format. During the
lessons, the teacher will provide information on the recommended [Link] score of the exam
is attributed by means of a score expressed out of thirty. The exam is passed with a score of 18/30.
The property of language in constructing a comment, capable to take the literary work in its
speci city into consideration, is considered a crucial requirement for passing the examination.
Every personal consideration on the work must be veri ed on the text and cannot ignore the
consideration of its speci c artistic. An opinion which is undebated or limited to the work itself is not
considered satisfactory for evaluating the candidate's competence. To achieve the maximum score
(30/30 cum laude) the student must demonstrate accuracy in referring notions learned from text
reading and actively attending the lessons, organicity in arguing them in a coherent speech,
property of language.
