“QUANTIFIERS”
“Quanto?”
Sono parole che indicano la quantità di qualcosa.
Nella frase, si trovano prima dei nomi.
I “quantifiers” indicano:
1. grandi quantità
2. piccole quantità
3. quantità indefinite
4. quantità sufficiente
1. Grandi quantità
- MUCH (si usa per cose NON numerabili)
- MANY (si usa per cose numerabili)
- A LOT OF (si usa sia per cose numerabili che NON)
MUCH + uncountables MANY + countables

2. Piccole quantità
- A FEW (si usa per cose numerabili)
- A LITTLE (si usa per cose NON numerabili)
- A BIT (si usa per cose NON numerabili, ma è più informale)
A LITTLE + uncountables
I only have a little time.
A FEW + countables
My parents had a little money.
There are not a few people at the
supermarket.
A BIT OF + uncountables I went to Spain a few years ago.

There’s only a bit of milk left.

3. Quantità indefinite
Entrambi si usano per riferirsi ad una parola al plurale o ad una
non numerabile, senza dare una quantità specifica.
- SOME (si usa in frasi affermative)
- ANY (si usa in frasi negative o interrogative)
SOME (frasi affermative)
I have some questions about the homework.
There are some books on the table. Can you move them?
ANY (frasi negative e interrogative)
I’m sorry, I don’t have any coffee.
Does anyone have any questions?
ECCEZIONE
Quando facciamo richieste o offriamo qualcosa, si usa some al
posto di any, anche se si tratta di frasi interrogative.
Can I have some water please?
Can you give me some of your chocolate?
Would you like some cookies?
4. Quantità sufficiente
- ENOUGH (si usa sia con cose numerabili che con
cose non numerabili)
Do we have enough food for tomorrow’s party?
I think we don’t have enough vegetables. I’m going to buy
some more.
