Simple
Past
Quando si usa:
prossimo o remoto.
I visited London last summer.
We arrived yesterday evening.
This morning I bought a new wallet.
The train arrived five minutes ago.
Quando si usa:
When he was in high school Paul played in a band.
My grandmother visited us every Saturday.
During wartime there was often no electricity.
She was a teacher before she retired.
Quando si usa:
4. Con le “when clauses”, ossia nelle frasi temporali che iniziano con when:
When I was a child, I wanted to be a veterinarian.
She started to do her homework when her mother arrived home.
When I paid him the bill, he gave me the receipt.
Espressioni di tempo che spesso accompagnano
il Simple Past:
Ago Last
(year/month/week/Monday...)
When Yesterday
WORK → WORKED
LIVE → LIVED
LISTEN → LISTENED
Forma NEGATIVA
ausiliare DO, ossia DID, seguita dal NOT e dalla forma base del verbo
principale.
Soggetto + DID + NOT + verbo principale
(didn’t) (alla forma base)
You didn’t call me yesterday.
Forma INTERROGATIVA
l’ausiliare:
DID + soggetto + verbo principale
(alla forma base)
Did you call me yesterday?
VERBI IRREGOLARI
imparare a memoria.
Alcuni verbi irregolari tra i più comuni:
BE (essere) → WAS/WERE → BEEN
HAVE (avere) → HAD → HAD
DO (fare - ma anche come ausiliare) → DID → DONE
BUY (comprare) → BOUGHT → BOUGHT
COST (costare) → COST → COST
GO (andare) → WENT → GONE
COME (venire) → CAME → COME
FIND (trovare) → FOUND → FOUND
GET → GOT → GOT
KNOW (sapere/conoscere) → KNEW → KNOWN
SAY (dire) → SAID → SAID
SEE (vedere) → SAW → SEEN
MAKE (fare) → MADE → MADE
FORMA NEGATIVA O INTERROGATIVA DEI VERBI
IRREGOLARI:
presente solo nelle frasi affermative:
I bought a new smartphone yesterday.
(affermativa)
Did you buy a new smartphone yesterday?
(interrogativa)
I didn’t buy a new smartphone yesterday.
(negativa)
