+ Resistance to wide range of chemicals, therefore no corrosion in service lines.
+ High impact strength.
+ Heat preservation and energy -soving ables. The heat conductivity of PP-R pipes ore much lesser than metals
and hence offer significantly lower levels of hoot loss for transporting fuids.
+ High ecoustic insulation agains fluid noise. The fuid flow and hydraulic shocks within the building create noise
which can be avoided by use of the noise obsorplion ability of PP-R materials,
fonce to bacterial altack thus enabling safe potable water distribution.
+ Ligh’ weight e0sy to hondle moierial compored to the metalic piping systems ( 1/9 of the steel specific gravity).
* Convenient and reliable installation methods. The PP-R pipes can even be insialled in suspended form under

Cosmoplast Plumbing SystemsLONGITUDINAL EXPANSION:
‘The following schemes demonstrate some important cases:
i.
2 = ta
PF Fixed Point; PS~ Sliding Point
A. Exposed Installations:
Longitudinal expansion depends on the lemperature variation the pipes are exposed to. If the working
temperature of the system undergoes variations up to 10 -15°C the pipe elongation should be evalucted and
considered. Cold water pines have low linear exoonsion and hence can be neglected. But in cose of hot water
‘ond heating installations, the longitudinal expansion must be considered ond the installations must be planned
cond performed accordingly.
Thermal expansion of Polypropylene pipes can be evaluated using the following formule:
AL=axLx At
Where:
AL = Lineor expansion in mm.
= Coefficient of linear expansion = 0.18mm/mK
L_ = Initial pipe length in m.
‘At = The difterence between the temperature at which the system is instolled and the operating temperature.
Compensation of Longitudinal Expansion:
For exposed installations, the length variation due to longitudinel expansion should be compensated by a
calcviated and planned change of direction.
The free pipe length “Le” is the length of pipe thot should be kept free without clamping so as to compensate
for the exparsion. Its calculated with the following formula:
Is=Kx VdxAl
ing System for Hydro-Sanitary ApplicationsWhere:
Ls = Free pipe length in mm
AL = Linear expansion in mm
d= External diameter of pipe in mm.
K = 20 Constont for the PPR mater.
Exemple:
le pipe of 25mm diameter with 4m length, undergoes © potential lemperature veriation of 50°C. The thermal
‘expansion calculations result the following:
The variation in length:
AL = axbxAt = 0.18x4%50 = 36mm
‘The free pipe length:
ls = Kx¥dxAl = 20xV25 x36 = 600mm
The longitudinal expansion of plain PPR pipes can be icken directly from the below table

Piping System for Hydro-Sanitary ApplicationsB, Concealed Installation
Concealed installations generally do not require ony special consideration for linear expansion as there is
enough room to eccommodote the expansion of the pipe os per the guidelines of installation according to DIN
1988. Where there is no room to accommodate such expansion, the material absorbs all the stress arising
from residual expansion,
CLAMPING THE PIPES:
When pipe clamping techniques are considered, two types of clamping joinis must
be identified; fixed peints and sliding points. Fixed clamps held the pipes in a rigid
manner, while a sliding point allows the pipe to move in the axial direction oF the ‘
pipe.
Fixed points divide the pipe network info individual sections. Given this, the possible
longitudinal expansion and the corresponding free length from the fixed pipe points,
must be colculoted.
Sliding points should be located so that the oxial movement of longitudinal expansion
isnot influenced by the fxed connection points. Given this, the siding Foints should not be installed on either side of
the fitings in order to avoid acting os fixed points
itis importont, that the clamp or fastening material dees not damage the surlace of he pipe. The ideal fastening material
for PPR pipes ore rubber lined clamps which ensure that no mechanical damage ofthe pipe sudace con occur
The following toble shows the effective spans between clamps for horizontel lines ot selected tempercture

Cosmoplast Plumbing SystemsPRESSURE LOSS:
The characteristics of PPR type 3 material enable to obtain at the exrusion phase very smooth walls (roughnet
0.0070) which reduces the friction losses and improves the performance of the whole system. These factors allow
using higher water speed in the circus wihout having negative effects in the system as the case in other piping
systems
‘The moximum allowed speed for cold water is § m/s, while for hot waier (higher than 70°C), it is advisable not to
excoed 3 m/s. The pressure losses in PPR Type 3 can be taken directly from following diagrams and tobles:

Cosmoplast Plumbing SystemsFUSION WELDING PROCESS
CCosmoplas! FPR pipes end fitings are jointed using heat
process colled fusion welding, The process is very simple ani
rarulls in inseparable water tigh! joint, Itis carried out using o
cece fusion welding machines that simultaneously heat th
intemal surface ofthe firing and the external surlace of he pipe
which are then joined together \o form inseparable woter Fight
joint.
The following sections demensrote the basic procedure for
fusion welding process for plain and composite PPR pipes.
Welding Plain and PPR / FG / PPR Faser
Pipes:
The folowing stops describe the steps ofthe welding process:
1. Preporethe welding machine by fitting itwith the welding
des of the diometers to be welded. Connect the plug
to the 220 V power supoly socket and wait until the
machine reeches the working temperature (250°C ).
2. Cut the pipe af right angles to the pipe axis using
suitable pipe cutter,
3. Remove ony burrs or cutting chips by deburring the
ccuting area,
4. Mark the welding depth on the pipe using a suitable
marker.
5. Viithout tuning insert the end of the pipe into the
haoting sleeve Up 10 the marked welding depth and ot
the same time side without turning the fiting into the
other side of the heating ‘ool up to the stop.
6. Leave the pipe end fiting on the heating tool unil the
heoting time is elapsed.
7. At the end of the heating time, remove the pipe ond
filing from the heating tool and push them immeciately
into each other up to the mark indicating the welding
dogth. this stoge the depth mark will be covorad by
‘he welding bead. During this process, do nol rotate the
pipe and fitting relative te each other.
8. Allow the joint to cool fully before using.
Piping System for Hydro-Sanitary ApplicationsWelding Composite PPR / Al / PPR Stabi and PPR / Al / PE UV Resistant pipes:
The welding process of composite pipes is identical to hot for
plain FPR pipes. However, the extemal and intermediate layers
should first be shoved off before proceeding in the fusion
process.
The folowing steps describe the steps ofthe welding process:
1. Prepare the welding machine by fing it with the welding
dies of the diameters to be welded. Connect the plug
to the 220 V power supply socke! ond wait until the
machine reaches the working temperature (260°C),
2. Cu the pipe at right angles to the pipe axis using
suitable pipe cutter
3. Remove any burrs or cutting chips by deburring the
cutting area.
4, Use the pipe shoving fool fo peel off he outer layer (PPR in
case of tabi pipes er PE in caze of UV resistant pipes) ond
the intermediate aluminum layer. This con be done by hl
pushing the end of he composite pipe inside the shoving
fool until it reaches the stops inside the shaver. It is not
necessary fo mork the welding depth as the stop inside the
shaving lool sos the correct welding depth,
5. Without turning insert the end of the pipe into the
heating sleeve up to the morkad welding depth and at
the samme time slide without turning the fitting into the
cher side of the heating tool up to the stop.
6. _Laove the pipe ond fiting on the heating tool until the
heating time is elopsed.
7. At the end of the heating time, remove the pipe and
{iting from the heating ‘ool and push them immediately
Into each offer up to the mark indicating the welding
depth, At this stage the depth mark will be covered by
the welding bead. During this process, do not rofate the
pipe and fifing relotiveto each other
8, Allow the joint te coal fully betore using.

Electro-fusion Welding Process
Electro-Fusion process is carried out using special welding machine and PPR Electro-Fusion sockets. The Eleciro-fusion
socks are provided with 2 socket ends that can be welded inc single operation.
‘The Hlecro-Fusion sockets include builtin resistance coil in their body, the welding machine sends current through the
resistance cil thal couse he PPR material fo mel and therefore the two sides ofthe socket and the pipes are fused ogether
at fhe some time.
The lero fin seks hye stepson hina roe up wic he pipe should be sere isi he socket. These
stops con be removed vith sharp blade in cate the alecho-Fusion sockets are to be used as sliding couplers.
‘The elecro-hsion sockets have two pins on he external surface, to which the welding machine is connected while performing
th waldng pres. The we nds wl appear cringe welding precede he welding longer hs
Alter performing the electro-usion proces, the interne surface ofthe socket and the external surface of the pipe willbe fused
together.
Qualiy eletro-{uson join’ are guaranteed only if he socket and pipe surfaces are free from meisture, dir and grease.
The elcirosusion process is done as detiled below:
1. Cut the pipe at right ongles to the pipe axis using
suitable pipe cutter.
2. Clean the parts ofthe pipe to be welded and the fitting
in order to aycid any dust or sand that might damage
the quoliy ofthe joint
3. Remove the welding elacirofusion sockets from their
protective packing and immediately fi the pipes ends
in the welding socket; the correct depth of connection’
is when the pipe touches the stops.
4. Hold the pipes in their position during the welding
process.
5. Connect the welding machine to the welding sockat
and stort the welding machine. The springing out of
the two indicator pins indicates that the heating time
has ended.
6. Disconnect the welding mochine from the welding
socket.
7. When welding is completed, its recommended not to
apply any mechanicol stress (by deflections, torsions,
‘ractions) to the joint for at least 20 minutes.
