Morbus Hansen
Penyakit Hansen atau Penyakit Morbus Hansen yang dahulu
dikenal sebagai Penyakit Kusta atau Lepra adalah penyakit
infeksi kronis yang disebabkan oleh Mycobacterium leprae
dan biasanya mempengaruhi kulit serta saraf tepi, namun
memiliki berbagai macam manifestasi klinis. (WHO, 2010).

Penderita kusta tersebar di seluruh dunia. Di Indone

sia tercatat 33.739 orang penderita kusta. Indonesia
merupakan negara ketiga terbanyak penderitanya se
telah India dan Brazil dengan prevalensi 1,7 per
10.000 penduduk.
Kusta dapat menyerang semua orang. Pria lebih b
anyak terkena dibandingkan wanita dengan perba
ndingan 2:1, walaupun ada daerah yang menunjuk
kan insidensi hampir sama bahkan penderita wani
ta lebih banyak. Perbedaan tidak begitu nyata untu
k tipe tuberkuloid pada orang dewasa karena perb
edaan kerentanan dari faktor-faktor kontak.

Penyebab Morbus Hansen
Penyebab penyakit kusta adalah kuman kusta ( mycob
acterium leprae), yang berbentuk batang dengan
ukuran panjang 1–8 mic, lebar 0,2–0,5 mic biasanya
berkelompok dan ada yang tersebar satu-satu,
hidup dalam sel dan bersifat tahan asam (BTA).

Masa belah diri kuman memerlukan waktu yaitu 12-21

hari. Hal ini merupakan salah satu penyebab masa tun
as lama yaitu rata-rata 2–5 tahun. Pertumbuhan optima
l dari kuman kusta adalah pada suhu 27°-30°C.
