Pengertian Report Text
Report text adalah jenis teks dalam bahasa Inggris yang berfungsi untuk memberikan informasi tentang
fakta umum mengenai sesuatu, seperti hewan, tumbuhan, benda, atau fenomena alam.
Teks ini bersifat faktual dan ilmiah, bukan hasil opini pribadi.
🧩 Tujuannya:
Untuk melaporkan atau mendeskripsikan sesuatu secara umum berdasarkan fakta ilmiah.

2. Tujuan Komunikatif (Social Function)
Tujuan utama report text adalah:
“To describe the way things are, with reference to a range of natural, man-made and social phenomena in
our environment.”
Artinya: Untuk mendeskripsikan hal-hal sebagaimana adanya, terkait fenomena alam, buatan manusia,
maupun sosial di sekitar kita.
3. Struktur Teks (Generic Structure)
Report text memiliki dua bagian utama:
1. General Classification (Klasifikasi Umum)
Berisi pengenalan umum tentang topik atau hal yang dilaporkan.
➜ Contoh: “Dolphins are mammals that live in the sea. They are very intelligent animals.”
2. Description (Deskripsi)
Menjelaskan bagian-bagian, sifat, kebiasaan, atau fungsi dari hal yang dibahas.
➜ Contoh: “They have smooth skin, live in groups called pods, and communicate using sounds.”
4. Ciri-Ciri Kebahasaan (Language Features)
Menggunakan simple present tense
→ Contoh: Elephants live in groups.
Menggunakan general nouns (kata benda umum)
→ Contoh: Cats, Volcanoes, Trees
Menggunakan relating verbs (kata kerja penghubung)
→ Contoh: is, are, have, belong to
Menggunakan technical terms (istilah ilmiah)
→ Contoh: photosynthesis, mammal, species
Menghindari opini pribadi atau kata subjektif
→ Tidak memakai I think, I believe, dll.

General Classification:
The Sun is the star at the center of our solar system. It is the source of light and heat for all the planets
that orbit around it.
Description:
The Sun is a huge ball of hot gases, mainly hydrogen and helium. Its diameter is about 1.4 million
kilometers, and it is about 150 million kilometers away from the Earth.
The Sun provides energy that supports life on Earth through processes like photosynthesis in plants. It
also controls the weather and climate of our planet. Without the Sun, there would be no life on Earth.
