Biasanya, sesi wawancara dalam bahasa Inggris akan diawali dengan pertanyaan seperti:

 Can you tell me about yourself? (Bisakah ceritakan tentang dirimu?)

 Give me an information about yourself! (Beri saya informasi tentang diri kamu!)

 Please, introduce yourself

Pertanyaan ini sangat umum ditanyakan dalam wawancara pekerjaan apa saja, tidak hanya pekerjaan
di kapal saja. Versi lain dari pertanyaan ini adalah “Tell us more about yourself”. Tidak perlu bertele-
tele, sebutkan informasi dasar tentang diri Anda yang meliputi:

“My strengths are I am a fast learner and I love to learn new things. I am also persistent and

3. Tell us about your weakness (kelemahan)

Pertanyaan selanjutnya sedikit menjebak, karena Anda harus menjabarkan kelemahan Anda. Untuk
yang satu ini, Anda harus bisa menjawab sejujur mungkin. Sebutkan setidaknya tiga kelemahan yang
Anda miliki dalam diri Anda.

“I am an extreme perfectionist who always want to finish every job perfectly, and sometimes it takes
too long for me to finish a job. I also easily distracted by my surrounding. Lastly is I get bored quite
easily.”

Tipsnya, kamu harus menjadikan kelemahan itu terlihat sebagai kualitas positif. Caranya? Tentu
dengan menunjukkan bagaimana cara kamu untuk solve the problem dari kekurangan yang kamu
miliki agar terlihat seperti seseorang yang tidak terpaku pada kelemahan. Sehingga, jika diterima
nanti, kamu bisa bekerja secara profesional. Coba perhatikan contoh ini:

Interviewer: What are your weakness? (Apa kekuranganmu?)

Kamu bisa menjawab pertanyaan HRD seperti ini:

You: “Sometimes, I am a little bit slower in completing my tasks. It is because I really want to get
things right. I will double check my work to make sure everything is accurate.”

4. why should we hire you?

Untuk pertanyaan mengapa Anda harus dipekerjakan dalam perusahaan tersebut, yakinkan bahwa
Anda memiliki nilai jual yang bisa menutup semua kelemahan Anda.

“My vast experience in this field would definitely useful for the company, even though I am still
lacking at many things. My strong passion will help me to give the best for the company, and even
though I have some undeniable weaknesses, with the guidance from my supervisors and co-workers, I
am sure those will be manageable.”

Ingat bahwa pertanyaan ini sangat penting. Jika pewawancara merasa tertarik, maka mereka akan
melanjutkan ke pertanyaan yang lebih spesifik.

5. Why did you apply to our company?

Melalui pertanyaan ini, pewawancara ingin mengetahui sejauh mana Anda sudah menggali informasi
tentang perusahaan tersebut.

 Why do you want to join this company? (Mengapa kamu melamar kerja di perusahaan ini?)

 What motivated you to apply for this job? (Apa motivasi kamu melamar pekerjaan ini?)

“I have always been interested in this company for their notorious success in this field. I want to be
part of it, from where I am sure will gain meaningful experience.”

Anda juga bisa menambahkan kepentingan pribadi seperti, “I really love to travel and I see this as an
opportunity for both traveling around the world for free while working as well. This is an absolute win
for me, personally.”

Atau ““I see this opportunity as a way to contribute to a fast-moving company and I feel I can do it
with my skill and knowledge.”

6. What do you know about a cruise ship?

Jika Anda melamar di kapal pesiar, tentu Anda akan mendapatkan pertanyaan ini. Khusunya jika Anda
belum pernah bekerja di dunia perkapalan. Informasi singkat tentang kapal pesiar bisa diperoleh dari
internet.

“It is a floating hotel that cruises from one harbor to another or from one country to other countries.”

Apabila informasi yang Anda ketahui sangat terbatas, jangan menambahkan informasi yang belum
diketahui secara pasti kebenarannya.

7. What position did you apply for and why were you interested on it?

Pertanyaan ini akan menggali lebih jauh tentang motivasi Anda untuk melamar pekerjaan ini. Dalam
menjawa pertanyaan, Anda harus menunjukkan bahwa Anda sudah banyak mencari tahu tentang
posisi yang berkaitan beserta dengan tantangan-tantangan yang harus dihadapi.

“I applied for Steward position in the F&B Department.”

Jelaskan secara rinci posisi apa yang ingin Anda lamar. Jangan hanya menyebutkan posisinya saja,
karena akan memberi kesan bahwa sebenarnya Anda tidak paham posisi mana yang ingin dituju.
Selanjutnya, jelaskan mengapa Anda tertarik dengan posisi tersebut.

“My background education is related to F&B Department and I also like to socialize with people. I also
like to give direct service to others, listening to their complains and satisfaction, from which I can
 learn a lot and do better. Rather than being in the back, I prefer to appear on the frontline and serve
the customer directly.”

Dengan jawaban di atas, pewawancara akan melihat bahwa apa yang Anda katakan berkaitan dengan
kelebihan Anda di atas, yaitu orang yang mudah bergaul dengan orang lain.

Can you share your understanding of the role you are applying for? (Pengetahuan terkait posisi
yang dilamar)

Pertanyaan yang satu ini umumnya dilontarkan bagi para fresh graduate yang belum beperngalaman.
Perhatikan contoh pertanyaan yang sering muncul:

 What do you know about the position you are applying for? (Apa yang kamu ketahui tentang
posisi yang kamu lamar?)

 How familiar are you with the job position you have applied for? (Seberapa familier kamu
dengan posisi pekerjaan yang telah kamu lamar?)

8. Do you know the main duty of a Steward?

Pewawancara ingin menggali pengetahuan Anda tentang posisi yang ingin Anda lamar. Pastikan
sebelum wawancara, Anda sudah tahu tugas-tugas utama yang harus dijalankan. Semakin luas
pengetahuan Anda, pewawancara akan semakin yakin bahwa Anda siap untuk posisi tersebut.

Jika Anda sudah pernah bekerja sebagai Steward sebelumnya, sebutkan juga pada jawaban Anda.

“As I experienced from my previous job, the main duty as a Steward would be helping and serving the
guests, clearing up, and making sure the whole area is clean so that the guests will be comfortable.”

9. Are you ready to share a room with other workers with different nationalities?

Bekerja di kapal internasional artinya Anda harus berbagi kamar dengan orang-orang dari negara lain
dengan budaya dan gaya hidup yang sangat berbeda.

“I realize that living and working together with people from other countries is not easy since we have
different background, lifestyle, and cultures. But as long as we compromise, tolerance, respect each
other, and obeying the company rules, there will be no problem. Aside from that, this is an
opportunity to learn about diversity.”

Tunjukkan bahwa Anda merupakan seseorang yang melihat setiap peristiwa sebagai peluang untuk
belajar namun tetap menyadari adanya kesulitan di samping semua itu.

10. Do you have sea sick?

Perusahaan kapal tidak akan mempekerjakan seseorang yang mudah mabuk laut. Jawab pertanyaan
ini dengan jelas dan tegas.

Ini adalah resiko yang harus dihadapi oleh setiap pekerja kapal. Anda mungkin akan mendapatkan

13. Why did you quit your previous job?

baru. Jangan menjelekkan perusahaan lama Anda, misalnya dengan mengatakan bahwa perusahaan
Anda memberikan gaji terlalu sedikit, jenjang karir yang lambat, dan lain sebagainya.

14. What salary range are you expecting for this position? (Berapa gaji yang diinginkan?)

kalau dapat pertanyaan seperti ini, hindari untuk memberi jawaban angka secara mentah-mentah.

Salah satu cara agar kamu dapat memberikan jawaban yang tepat dari pertanyaan yang satu ini
adalah dengan melakukan riset terlebih dahulu melalui internet. Cari tahu informasi kisaran gaji
untuk posisi yang kamu lamar, lalu sesuaikan dengan pengalamanmu.

Jika gaji sebelumnya mencapai angka dua digit, maka kamu bisa memberi expected salary yang tidak
jauh berbeda. Untuk menjawab pertanyaan ini, kamu dapat melihat contoh berikut:

What are Some of the Duties and Responsibilities of a Housekeeper?

A housekeeper’s duties include cleaning allocated areas, dusting and wiping surfaces, changing
linens, removing trash, scrubbing bathrooms and sinks, vacuuming carpets, and cleaning windows.
Depending on the employer, there may be other additional duties and responsibilities. Let me also

that I have used before are ice cleaners.

What Would Your Reaction be If You Were Assigned a Task Outside Your Job Description?

I believe that I am a helpful and resourceful person. I gladly fill in for my co-workers whenever they
are unable to attend work on that day. Similarly, I willingly help my employer even when the task
they require falls outside my scope of work as long as I can deliver.

Do You Perform Better Alone or as a Team?

I believe I am an excellent communicator and bond with people pretty fast. These interpersonal
skills help me whenever I need to work with a team making me a great and productive team player.
On the other hand, I have also mastered the art of working alone, with minimal supervision. I am

An excellent housekeeper needs to be a good communicator and possess excellent customer
