Definisi Teks Prosedur (Procedure Text)

Procedure text is a type of text that provides instructions or directions on how to perform a
specific task. Atau dalam bahasa Indonesia, teks prosedur dapat diartikan sebagai jenis teks
yang menginformasikan tentang bagaimana cara melakukan, membuat sesuatu,
menyelesaikan suatu pekerjaan atau kegiatan secara bertahap.
Pada dasarnya tujuan dari teks prosedur adalah untuk menjelaskan bagaimana
membuat, melakukan atau mengoperasikan sesuatu dengan langkah demi langkah
atau instruksi yang jelas dan berurutan.
Procedure text atau prosedur teks dalam bahasa Inggris biasanya memiliki judul teks yang
diawali dengan “How to..”, “How to operate..”, dan “How to make”.

Struktur Teks Prosedur (Generic Structure of Procedure Text)

 PROCEDURE TEXT
 Aim/Goal atau Tujuan
Di dalam teks prosedur bahasa Inggris, terdapat bagian aim/goal yang berarti tujuan
pelaksanaan dari apa yang akan disampaikan dalam teks. Biasanya, tujuan yang ada pada
teks merupakan judul dari teks tersebut. Misalnya:
“How to Cook Nasi Goreng”

 Ingredients/Materials atau Alat/Bahan

Setelah tujuan, akan ada bagian ingredients/materials yang berarti alat/bahan yang akan
diperlukan dalam membuat sesuatu yang ada dalam teks prosedur dalam bahasa Inggris
tersebut. Misalnya seperti:
Ingredients:
o 1 plate of rice

o 1 egg

o A pinch of salt and pepper

o 1 tablespoon of oil, sweet soy sauce and sambal (optional)

o 1 sausage

o Steps/Methods atau Langkah-langkah

Bagian steps/methods adalah bagian yang berisi langkah-langkah yang harus kita lakukan untuk membuat
sesuatu sesuai teks prosedur. Pada bagian ini, langkah-langkahnya akan ditulis secara spesifik dan berurutan.
Agar membantu pembaca dapat mengikuti instruksi dengan baik. Contohnya:

First, heat up the pan with vegetable oil. After the pan is hot enough, not too hot, crack the egg, and
scramble it…

Ciri-Ciri Teks Prosedur (Procedure Text)

Teks prosedur atau Procedure text memiliki ciri-ciri sebagai berikut:
1. Memiliki tujuan teks sebagai judul.
2. Secara umum langkah-langkahnya atau metode berbentuk poin atau diberi nomor
untuk menunjukkan instruksi yang berurutan.
3. Instruksi disusun secara sistematis, dan detail. Selain perintah, terkadang ada larangan
dan syarat sebagai tambahan instruksi.
4. Informasi yang disajikan bersifat objektif.

Kaidah Kebahasaan dan Contoh Teks Prosedur (Procedure Text)

Berikut adalah kaidah kebahasaan yang umum digunakan dalam procedure text atau teks
prosedur dalam bahasa Inggris:
1. Menggunakan simple present tense
Procedure text menggunakan simple present tense untuk menggambarkan keadaan di saat
yang bersamaan dengan kegiatan yang sedang dilakukan. Contoh dari simple present
pada teks prosedur adalah sebagai berikut:
If you are a class XII student who wants to register for PTN (State Universities) via the
SNMPTN (National Selection for State Universities) and SBMPTN (Joint Selection for State
Universities), you must have an account for the Higher Education Entrance Test Institute
(LTMPT). Students who have graduated from high school or equivalent from abroad must have

2. Menggunakan imperative sentence atau kalimat perintah
Karena mayoritas isi teks ini merupakan instruksi, maka akan ditemukan imperative
sentence yang dalam kalimatnya diawali oleh verb atau kata kerja. Lihat
contoh procedure text berikut ini:
Here’s how to play the angklung:
1. Hold the angklung with your left hand. Hold it by holding the knot where the two

3. Menggunakan connectives atau kata penghubung
Langkah-langkah atau instruksi yang ada pada teks prosedur dalam bahasa Inggris disusun
secara berurutan, sehingga dari langkah satu ke langkah selanjutnya menggunakan
connectives atau kata hubung, yakni sebagai berikut:
Steps to Turn Off the Computer Correctly.
We must turn off the computer properly so that it is not easily damaged. Here are the steps
we have to do:
1. First, click the “START” menu in the lower left corner of the screen.
2. Then click “shutdown”.
3. Then select “OK”.
4. Wait until the computer turns off.
5. After that press the button on the monitor and turn off the stabilizer after the computer
shuts down.
6. Finally, unplug the cable from the power supply to cut off the current.

4. Menggunakan adverb of manner atau kata keterangan cara

Terakhir, selain menggunakan kata hubung dan kalimat perintah, di dalam teks prosedur akan
ada adverb of manner atau kata keterangan cara untuk memperjelas instruksi agar
dapat memberikan hasil yang diharapkan oleh orang yang mengikuti beberapa langkah
saja. Misalnya:
How to make fried rice:
Material:
 2 plates of rice
 3 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
 5 cloves of shallot, finely chopped
 MSG
 Salt to taste
 1 egg
 Shrimp
 20 cayenne peppers (you can add more if you want it to be spicy)
 1 spring onion
 Cooking oil
 Crispy fried shallots

How to make:
1. Grind the garlic, shallots, cayenne pepper, and salt smoothly.
2. Heat the cooking oil. After that, stir-fry chicken eggs and shrimp have been prepared.
Then, add the ground spices that have been ground earlier and stir-fry until you can
smell the delicious aroma.
3. Add the rice and stir with the ground spices. Slice the scallions evenly and add them to
the rice.
4. Stir again briefly. After everything is almost cooked, add MSG to taste.
5. Remove and serve on a plate while warm with fried shallots.
