Recount Text - Belajar bahasa Inggris pada kesempatan kali ini akan

membahas mengenai Recount Text. Mungkin banyak teman-teman yang

masih bingung apa sih perbedaan antara Recount Text dengan Narrative
Text. Memang keduanya merupakan jenis teks Narration (lihat: Jenis Teks
Bahasa Inggris) yang merupakan jenis teks yang menceritakan cerita masa

A. Pengertian Recount Text

Recount Text adalah salah satu dari jenis teks bahasa Inggris yang
menceritakan kembali kejadian-kejadian atau pengalaman-pengalaman di
masa lampau. Tujuan dari Recount Text adalah untuk memberikan informasi
atau untuk menghibur pembaca. Di dalam Recount Text tidak terdapat
komplikasi (Complication) seperti halnya di Narrative Text.

B. Tujuan Komunikatif Teks Recount

Tujuan komunikatif Recount Text seperti penjelasan di atas adalah untuk

melaporkan peristiwa, kejadian atau kegiatan dengan tujuan memberitakan
atau menghibur tentunya tanpa ada konflik di dalam cerita tersebut.

C. Generic structure Teks Recount

1. Orientation
Orientation atau pengenalan yaitu memberikan informasi tentang siapa, di
mana, dan kapan peristiwa atau kegiatan itu terjadi di masa lampau.
2. Events
Events merupakan rekaman peristiwa yang terjadi, yang biasanya
disampaikan dalam urutan kronologis, seperti "In the first day, I ... . And in
the next day ... . And In the last day ..." . Di bagian Events ini juga biasanya
terdapat komentar pribadi tentang peristiwa atau kejadian yang diceritakan.

3. Reorientation
Pada bagian Reorientation, terdapat pengulangan pengenalan yang ada di
Orientation, pengulangan yang merangkum rentetan peristiwa, kejadian atau
kegiatan yang diceritakan.

D. Ciri Kebahasaan Recount Text

Terdapat beberapa ciri-ciri kebahasaan yang mungkin akan teman-teman temukan

ketika membaca sebuah Recount Text. Ciri-ciri kebahasaan dari Recount Text
tersebut adalah:

 Menggunakan Past Tense. Misalkan we went to zoo, I was happy, etc.

 Menggunakan Conjunction dan Time Connectives untuk mengurutkan
peristiwa atau kejadian. Misalnya and, but, the, aftar that, etc.
 Menggunakan Adverbs dan Adverbial Phrase untuk mengungkapkan tempat,
waktu dan cara. Misalkan yesterday, at my house, slowly, etc.
 Menggunakan Action Verbs. Misalkan went, slept, run, brought, etc.

E. Contoh Recount Text

Our trip to the Blue Mountain

Orientation
On Friday we went to the Blue Mountains. We stayed at David and Della’s house. It
has a big garden with lots of colourful flowers and a tennis court.

(Pada hari jumat kami pergi ke Blue Mountains. Kami menginap di rumah David dan
Della. Rumah tersebut mempunyai sebuah taman yang besar dengan banyak bunga
warna warni dan sebuah lapangan tenis.)

Events
On Saturday we saw the Three Sisters and went on the scenic railway. It was scary.
Then, Mummy and I went shopping with Della. We went to some antique shops and I
tried on some old hats. On Sunday we went on the Scenic Skyway and it rocked. We
saw cockatoos having a shower.

(Pada hari sabtu kami melihat Three Sister dan pergi ke pemandangan jalan kereta
api yang indah. Sangat menakutkan. Kemudian ibu dan saya pergi berbelanja
dengan Della. Kita pergi ke toko-toko antik dan mencoba mendapatkan beberapa
topi tua. Pada hari minggu kami pergi ke pemandangan Skyway dan berbatu. Kami
melihat burung kakatua sedang mandi.)

Reorientation
In the afternoon we went home. That was very pleasent moment with my family
that I ever got.

(Di sore hari kami pulang ke rumah. Itu merupakan momen paling menyenangkan
bersama keluarga yang saya pernah dapatkan. )

moyang narrative text. Meski dalam linguistics saya belum menemukan 'kata yang
pas' untuk jenis teks ini).

Untuk lebih jelas, mari kita pahami keterangan berikut.

Pengertian Recount Text

Recount Text - Retell yours

Secara harfiah, recount bermakna "menceritakan". Jadi recount text bisa diartikan
sebagai "Text yang menceritakan". Jika mengacu pada keterangan di buku-buku
sekolah (baca : Buku Bahasa Inggris SMP / SMA) recount text adalah a text that
telling the reader about one story, action or activity. Its goal is to entertaining or
informing the reader. (sebuah teks yang menceritakan sebuah cerita, aksi ataupun
aktifitas. Tujuan recount text adalah untuk menghibur atau menginformasikan
pembaca.)

Generic Structure dari Recount Text

Generic structure (susunan umum) recount text ini terdiri dari:

 Orientation tells who was involved, what happened, where the events took
place, and when it happened. ("Orientation" menceritakan siapa saja yang
terlibat dalam cerita, apa yang terjadi, di mana tempat peristiwa terjadi, dan
kapan terjadi peristiwanya)

 Events tell what happened and in what sequence. ("Event" menceritakan

apa yang terjadi (lagi) dan menceritakan urutan ceritanya)

 Reorientation consists of optional-closure of events/ending. ("Reorientation"

berisi penutup cerita / akhir cerita)

Contoh Recount Text (1) tentang Masa SMP

My Adolescence

I had my adolescence when I was thirteen.

It started with acne that showed up on my face. It was very annoying. It lowered my
self-esteem and I was embarrassed to come out of my house and play with friends.
Fortunately, my Mum gave me a good medicine. In three weeks, the acnes started
to vanish although those showed some black spots in my face.

That was my bad experience with adolescence, though there were still lots of good
experience too.

Analisa :

Orientation : Paragraf pertama, (I had my adolescence when I was thirteen)

Events : Paragraf kedua dan ketiga.
Reorientation : Paragraf keempat (terakhir)

Contoh Recount Text (2) tentang Pengalaman

My First Experience to Ride Motorcycle

One day, when I was ten years old, my father bought an old motorcycle. That was "
Honda 75". I think it was small light object and easy to ride it. I persuaded my father
to teach me to ride " Honda 75 ". Firstly, my father refused my request and
promised that he would teach me two or three years later, but I still whimpered.
Finally, my father surrendered and promised to teach me.

He began to teach me riding the motorcycle around a field in my village. My father

was very patient to give me some directions. I was very happy when I realized my
ability to ride a motorcycle. " Yes, I can ".

One day later, when I was alone at home, I intended to try my riding ability. So,
myself tried bravely. All ran fluently in the beginning, but when I was going back to
my home and I passed through a narrow slippery street, I got nervous. I lost my
control and I fell to the ditch.
After that, I told my father about the last accident. I imagined my father would be
angry and never let me ride again. But the reality is exactly on the contrary, my
father was very proud of me. He just gave me some advices and since that
accident, I got my father's permission to ride motorcycle.

Analisa :
Orientation : Who = I and my father, When = When I was 10 years, What happen =
my father bought motorcycle and my father promised to teach me riding.

Events : My father taught me riding motorcyle --> I could ride, finally --> One day
later, I tried riding motorcycle alone --> I fell to the ditch.

It was takbiran night. It was also my birthday, and nothing happened. Or I

had thought nothing would happen, but I was wrong.

That night, I was watching television with my family when I heard

someone lit fireworks in my front yard. I peeped through my window glass
but could see nothing. It was very dark outside. Then I thought it had to be
my cousins who lit the fireworks. Then I plopped down on my sofa again
and tried to concentrate on the television since my mind raced with
disappointment that no one gave something special on my birthday.

I shrugged, it was almost the end of the day and I became pessimist. Five
minutes later my mobile beeped. It was a text from my friend asking me to
come out. Wondering what was going on, I grabbed my jacket and hurried
to the front door. I was surprised to see her bring a bag full of firework and
fire drills. Next I was surprised to see my other friend come out from the
darkness. She brought a beautiful birthday cake on her hands. Oh my God! I
shrieked. Then they gave the cake to me who was too stunned to say
anything. I realized I was blushing furiously because my whole family was
watching. Not to mention my neighbors too!

A plain day, or I thought it was before, turned out to be one of the greatest
moment in my life. I didn’t even know how to describe what I felt. Happy was
the simplest word.

Recount Text adalah salah satu jenis text dalam bahasa Inggris yang menceritakan kembali tentang
kejadian-kejadian atau pengalaman-pengalaman di masa lampau. Tujuan dari Recount Text adalah
untuk memberikan informasi atau untuk menghibur pembaca sehingga tidak terdapat konflik.

1. Macam-macam Recount Text :

a. Personal Recount
Yaitu menceritakan tentang pengalaman pribadi penulis

b. Factual Recount
Yaitu laporan peristiwa yang benar-benar terjadi, seperti laporan percobaan ilmu pengetahuan, laporan
kepolisian.

c. Imaginative
Yaitu membuat cerita imaginative lalu menuliskan peristiwa atau kejadian yang telah terjadi.

2. Struktur Recount Text adalah sebagai berikut :

a. Orientation
Yaitu pengenalan berupa memberikan informasi tentang siapa, dimana dan kapan peristiwa atau
kejadian itu terjadi di masa lampau.

b. Events
Yaitu merupakan rekaman peristiwa yang terjadi, biasanya disampaikan dalam urutan kronologis,
seperti : "In the first day... . And in the next day... . And in the last day... ." Pada bagian ini terdapat
juga komentar pribadi tentang peristiwa atau kejadian yang diceritakan.

c. Reorientation
Yaitu pengulangan pengenalan yang ada di orientation, pengulangan tentang rangkuman peristiwa atau
kejadian yang diceritakan.

3. Ciri Kebahasaan Recount Text

Pada saat membaca Recount Text, akan ditemukan ciri-ciri kebahasaan sebagai berikut :
a. Menggunakan kalimat dalam bentuk Past Tense.
Contoh : We went to Bandung last year, I was very happy.
b. Menggunakan Action Verbs.
Contoh : went, bought, wrote, slept, dll.
c. Menggunakan Adverbs and Adverbial Phrase untuk mengungkapkan waktu, tempat dan cara.
Contoh : yesterday, at school, quickly, dll.
d. Menggunakan Conjunction dan Time Connectives untuk mengurutkan peristiwa atau kejadian.
Contoh : but, and, after that, dll.

4. Contoh Recount Text

Orientation
I spent my holiday in Jogjakarta last year. I went to Prambanan Temple with my family early in the
morning.

Events
We went to Prambanan Temple by bus and arrived at 01.00 in the afternoon. I saw many foreign tourists
there. I spoke English with them. Their name are Andrew and Peter. They were very friendly. They came
from New York. Prambanan Temple was crowded in holiday. We went back at 07.00 in the evening.

Reorientation
It was a very interesting holiday.

Singapore

I want to tell you about my memorable time in Singapore. It was one of the best holidays I ever had.

I shall never forget the spectacular sight of the city. I saw from Mount Fable that night. The roller-
coaster ride, the stunts performed by the dolphins and the killer whale at the Sea World were also
exciting. I shall remember the thrill of having been on one of the longest rides in the monorail in Sentosa
Island for many years to come.

I also enjoyed various varieties of seafood at the makeshift roadside stalls at the Chinatown night
market. I also enjoyed the shopping trips. My family and friends agreed that the souvenirs were value
for money, especially the silk scarves with pretty prints and the attractive key chains.
