Descriptive text is a text which says what a person or a thing is like.

Its purpose is to
describe and reveal a particular person, place or thing.

Teks Deskriptif yaitu teks yang menjelaskan gambaran seseorang atau benda.
Tujuannya adalah untuk menggambarkan atau mengungkapkan orang, tempat atau
benda tertentu.

Bisa dikatakan juga bahwa Descriptive text adalah teks yang menjelaskan tentang
seperti apakah orang atau benda yang dideskripsikan, baik bentuknya, sifat-sifatnya,
jumlahnya dan lain-lain.

Struktur Descriptive Text (generic structure) adalah :


1. Identification (identifikasi) adalah pendahuluan , berupa gambaran umum tentang
suatu topik.
[Link] (deskripsi) adalah berisi ciri-ciri khusus yang dimiliki benda, tempat,
atau orang yang dideskripsikan.
Ciri-ciri Descriptive Text :
- Menggunakan simple present tense
- Menggunakan attribute verb, seperti be (am, is, are)
- Hanya fokus pada satu objek tersebut.

My Cat

(Identification)
My dad bought me a cat on my birthday. It is a male persian cat. I really love him as my pet.

(Description)
His name is oddoy. He has white fur. His fur is really soft and he likes to be rubbed on his belly.
He has a long tail and big body. He always walk around the house because he really like it. Odoy
is already as the part of our family.

Penjelasan:
 Paragraf pertama merupakan Identification karena menceritakan hal umum dari
seluruh cerita. Seperti bahwa penulis mempunyai kucing persia yang diberikan oleh
ayahnya saat dia berulang tahun.
 Paragraf kedua merupakan Description atau penjelasan keseluruhan umum ke khusus.
Seperti bahwa nama kucingnya pada text diatas adalah Odoy dengan bulu putih yang
halus, juga diceritakan bagaimana sifat dan kebiasaan dari kucing tersebut.
