Pengertian Review Text

Review bermakna “tinjauan, ringkasan, tinjauan ulang.” Jika ada frasa book review berarti
bermakna tinjauan buku. Karenanya, review text bisa diartikan secara harfiah sebagai teks yang
difungsikan untuk meninjau.

Pengertian (meaning) review text adalah untuk memberi penilaian atau kritik terhadap kegiatan
atau karya seni bagi pembaca atau pendengar khalayak ramai, misalnya film, pertunjukkan,
buku, dan produk.

Ciri Ciri Review Text

Sebuah text mempunyai cirinya tersendiri, berikut adalah ciri ciri dari review text

 Fokus pada specific participants

 Menggunakan adjectives (kata sifat)
 Menggunakan (long and complex clauses) kalusa yang panjang dan rumit
 Menggunakan metafora ( perumpamaan)

Tujuan Review Text

Tujuan dari review text yaitu to ‘criticise an art work, event for a public audience’ (untuk
memberikan kritik terhadap suatu karya seni ataupun lainnya untuk khalayak umum) juga
memberikan ulasan, tinjauan, bahkan kritik terhadap suatu karya seni, ilmiah, buku ataupun
bentuk-bentuk lainnya agar diketahui oleh khalayak umum.

Generic Structure Review Text

Secara garis besar generic structure review text yaitu :

 Introduction (paragraf pertama)

Introduction terletak di awal paragraf review, berisikan Pengenalan terhadap pokok atau
gambaran umum tentang sebuah karya/benda yang akan ditinjau. Gambaran umum tersebut
dapat berupa nama, kegunaan, dan sebagainya.” Places the work in its general and particular
context, often by comparing it with others of its kind or through an analog with a non–art object
or event” (menempatkan karya yang ditinjau pada konteks umum ataupun khusus, biasanya
dengan membandingkan dengan karya lain yang sejenis atau melalui analogi obyek yang bukan
karya seni.)

 Evaluation
Bagian evaluation berisi gambaran detail dari sebuah karya, antara lain menceritakan kelebihan,
keunikan, kualitas, serta hal- hal yang membuatnya menarik dengan memberikan gambaran yang
lebih mendetail terhadap suatu karya atau benda yang akan direview. Gambaran tersebut dapat
berupa bagian-bagiannya, keunikan ataupun kualitasnya. Pada bagian ini hindari memberikan
terlalu banyak deskripsi mengenai karya atau benda tersebut, untuk menjauhkan kesan
‘mengajarkan’ pembaca. Istilah yang digunakan dalam struktur umum yang kedua ini adalah
tidak jauh dari kata ‘baik’ atau ‘tidak’ karya atau benda tersebut. Bagian ini biasanya terdiri
lebih dari satu evaluasi.

 Interpretation

Pada bagian interpretasi, penulis memberikan pendapat atau pandangannya terhadap mengenai
karya atau benda yang direviewnya. Tentu saja fase ini dilakukan setelah melakukan evaluasi
yang cukup terhadap karya atau barang tersebut. Tidak jarang untuk mendukung, memperkuat,
atau lebih meningkatkan kualitas/ hasil mengenai karya atau benda yang diulas, penulis dapat
membandingkan dengan mengenai karya atau benda yang direviewnyamengenai karya atau
benda yang direviewnya dengan jenis lainnya (Hal ini dilakukan untuk mendukung dan
memperkuat pandangan penulis). Pada fase inipenulis juga menuliskan kelebihan dari karya atau
benda tersebut, atau sebaliknya yang menjadikannya kurang bernilai.

 Summary (kesimpulan)

Pada bagian ini, penulis memberikan kesimpulan pada bagian terakhir dari Review text kepada
pembaca terhadap karya atau benda yang telah diulas ( karya atau benda yang direviewnya).
Setelah memberikan penjelasan di evaluasi dan pandangan penulis sendiri di bagian interpretasi,
di bagian ini penulis memberikan komentar mengenai karya atau benda yang diulas berharga
atau tidak untuk calon pembeli.

public moments that have shaped his life (Martin Luther King’s ”I Have a Dream” speech,
Muhammad Ali’s “I can float like a butterfly and sting like a bee.”) as well as very private ones
like attending the wedding of a girl he was still very much in love with. This not only gives us an
insight into the person behind these poems, it helps us understand their inspiration and
connection to things outside of the words. “The Bee in the Web” draws on the “butterfly”/”bee”
of Ali’s boast, yet expands on it to a message of racial harmony as opposed to one of militant
aggression and separatism.

There are some great titles (“The Martian and the Wino,” “W Stands for Wrong", ”Fasten Your
Seatbelt”) and lines that make us think (“Sometimes I feel that life’s a curse, has front-wheel
drive and no reverse” and the very poignant “I hate in order to protect yourself—you pack a gun
or mace. So why don’t I say what the hell and hate the human race.”) There are also some bad
lines: “Her skin is cream, her body is slim. Looking at her makes the average saint sin.”—
perhaps, but what or who is “the average saint”? The book ends with a sweet poem by Charla
Angeline Hultmann (and I really like the candor of her bio) called “Gift” and “giving” is the real
spirit of this book of poetry.

I will be honest, I am not a fan of rhyme. There is a delight in adjacent sounds rubbing
together—vowels held and savored, consonants clicking in a row—but “easy” rhymes
(“head”/“dead”; “love”/”dove”; “moon”/”prune”) tend to overshadow poetic subtleties,
determine word choice and the words themselves lose their meaning, becoming clichés. But this
is the music of this poet’s generation, and there is no denying that poetry is more alive, more
meaningful and more accessible than it has ever been at any other time during my life. PS I do
love the “Osama” “mama” rhyme. In general I think it would benefit Harold Nash’s development
to read more of the published contemporary Black poets.

But form aside, this is an honest (courageous and unflinching) look at life today—one we need to
share together for the survival of us all. That is “Rhymes of the Times” message. And it is a good
one.

Understanding Review Text
Review means "review, summary, review." If any book review phrases mean book reviews.
Therefore, the review text can be interpreted literally as a text that is enabled for review.

Understanding (meaning) review text is to provide an assessment or criticism of the

activities or works of art for the reader or audience audiences, such as movies, shows,
books, and products.
Feature Character Text Review
A text has its own characteristics, here is a characteristic feature of text review

Objective Review Text

The purpose of the review text is to 'criticize an art work, event for a public audience' (to
give criticism of a work of art or other to the public) also provides reviews, reviews, even
criticism of a work of art, science, books or forms - other forms to be known by the general
public.

Generic Structure Review Text

Generic structure review text is generally outlined:

Introduction (first paragraph)

Introduction is located at the beginning of the review paragraph, containing an

Introduction to the subject or an overview of a work / item to be reviewed. The general
description can be name, usability, and so on. "Placing the reviewed work in general or
special contexts, usually by comparing with other similar works or by analogies of objects
that are not works of art.)

Evaluation

The evaluation section contains detailed descriptions of a work, including telling about the
advantages, uniqueness, quality, and the things that make it interesting by giving a more
detailed picture of a work or object to be reviewed. The picture may be its parts, its
uniqueness or its quality. In this section avoid giving too many descriptions of the work or
objects, to keep the impression of 'teaching' the reader. The term used in this second
general structure is not far from the word 'good' or 'not' the work or object. This section
usually consists of more than one evaluation.
Interpretation

In the interpretation section, the author gives his opinion or his views on the work or
object he reviews. Of course this phase is done after a sufficient evaluation of the work or
goods. Not infrequently to support, strengthen, or further improve the quality / results of
the work or object reviewed, the authors can compare with the work or objects reviewed
on the work or objects it reviews with other types (This is done to support and reinforce
the author's view). In this phase the author also writes the advantages of the work or
object, or vice versa that makes it less valuable.

Summary (conclusion)

In this section, the authors give a conclusion to the last part of the Review text to the reader
of the work or object that has been reviewed (works or objects reviewed). After providing
an explanation in the evaluation and the author's own views in the interpretation section,
in this section the authors provide comments about the work or objects reviewed valuable
or not to prospective buyers.
