Perilaku P-v-T dari Campuran Gas
(Gas Ideal)
Hukum Dalton (Daltons law of additive pressures) :
Tekanan dari suatu campuran gas adalah sama dengan jumlah
tekanan setiap komponen gas secara individu pada volume (V) dan
suhu (T) yang sama dengan V dan T campuran tersebut.
FIGURE 135
Hukum Dalton tentang penambahan tekanan
untuk suatu campuran dari 2 gas ideal
Hukum Amagat (Amagats law of additive volumes) :
Volume dari suatu campuran gas adalah sama dengan jumlah
volume setiap gas secara individu pada tekanan (P) dan suhu (T) yang
sama dengan P dan T campuran tersebut.
FIGURE 136
Hukum Amagat tentang penambahan volume
untuk suatu campuran dari 2 gas ideal.
Hukum Dalton dan Amagat dapat dinyatakan sbb :
FIGURE 137
Sehingga :
% Volume = % mol
Campuran Gas Riil
Persamaan hubungan untuk gas riil menggunakan persamaan
gas ideal yg ditambahkan faktor kompresibilitas Z sbb :
Faktor kompresibilitas campuran (Zm) dapat dinyatakan
dalam suku faktor kompresibilitas gas individu (Zi) sbb :
FIGURE 138
Salah satu cara untuk memperkirakan perilaku
P-v-T dari campuran gas riil yaitu dengan
menggunakan faktor kompresibilitas.
Aturan Kay
kritik komponen campuran sbb :
FIGURE 139
Cara lain untuk memprediksi perilaku
P-v-T suatu campuran gas riil
dengan memperlakukannya sebagai zat
pseudopure dengan sifat-sifat kritik
(Pcr dan Tcr).
EXAMPLE 132
Perkirakan volume tangki berdasarkan :
(a) Persamaan gas ideal ( sbg Gas Ideal)
(b) Aturan Kay ( sbg Gas Riil)
(c) Faktor Kompresibilitas dan hukum Amagat ( sbg Gas Riil)
(d) Faktor Kompresibilitas dan hukum Dalton ( sbg Gas Riil)
Jawab :
(a) Jika campuran diasumsikan sebagai gas ideal
volume campuran dapat ditentukan dari persamaan gas
ideal untuk campuran sbb :
Dengan :
(b) Dengan Aturan Kay kita perlu menentukan suhu dan
tekanan pseudokritik dari campuran dengan menggunakan
sifat-sifat kritik dari N2 dan CO2 (Tabel A1)
Namun demikian, mula-mula kita perlu menentukan fraksi mol
dari tiap komponen sbb :
Maka :
Sehingga :
(c) Jika hukum Amagat digunakan
nilai Zm ditentukan dari nilai Z tiap komponen, yaitu sbb :
Nilai Zm untuk Campuran :
Sehingga :
(d) Jika hukum Dalton digunakan
nilai Z tiap komponen ditentukan pada suhu & volume
campuran yg belum diketahui sehingga diperlukan solusi
alternatif.
Perhitungan dimulai dengan mengasumsikan bahwa volume
campuran gas sebesar 1,33 m3 ( ditentukan dengan
persamaan gas ideal)

EXAMPLE 133
Mixing Two Ideal Gases in a Tank
An insulated rigid tank is divided into two compartments by a partition, as
shown in Fig. 1314. One compartment contains 7 kg of oxygen gas at 40C
and 100 kPa, and the other compartment contains 4 kg of nitrogen gas at
20C and 150 kPa. Now the partition is removed, and the two gases are
allowed to mix. Determine (a) the mixture temperature and (b) the mixture
pressure after equilibrium has been established.
FIGURE 1314
Schematic for Example 133.
Solution A rigid tank contains two gases separated by a partition. The pressure
and temperature of the mixture are to be determined after the partition
is removed.
Assumptions 1 We assume both gases to be ideal gases, and their mixture
to be an ideal-gas mixture. This assumption is reasonable since both the
oxygen and nitrogen are well above their critical temperatures and well below
their critical pressures. 2 The tank is insulated and thus there is no heat
transfer. 3 There are no other forms of work involved.
Properties The constant-volume specific heats of N2 and O2 at room temperature
are cv,N2
0.743 kJ/kg K and cv,O2
0.658 kJ/kg K (Table A2a).
Analysis We take the entire contents of the tank (both compartments) as
the system. This is a closed system since no mass crosses the boundary during
the process. We note that the volume of a rigid tank is constant and thus
there is no boundary work done.
(a) Noting that there is no energy transfer to or from the tank, the energy balance
for the system can be expressed as
By using cv values at room temperature, the final temperature of the mixture
is determined to be
(b) The final pressure of the mixture is determined from the ideal-gas relation
where
and
Thus,
Discussion We could also determine the mixture pressure by using PmVm
mmRmTm, where Rm is the apparent gas constant of the mixture. This
would require a knowledge of mixture composition in terms of mass or mole
fractions.
Real-Gas Mixtures
FIGURE 1316
It is difficult to predict the behavior of
nonideal-gas mixtures because of the
influence of dissimilar molecules on
each other.
Consider the following T ds relation for a gas mixture:
It can also be expressed as
or
which yields
EXAMPLE 135
Cooling of a Nonideal Gas Mixture
Air is a mixture of N2, O2, and small amounts of other gases, and it can be
approximated as 79 percent N2 and 21 percent O2 on mole basis. During a
steady-flow process, air is cooled from 220 to 160 K at a constant pressure
of 10 MPa (Fig. 1317). Determine the heat transfer during this process
per kmol of air, using (a) the ideal-gas approximation, (b) Kays rule, and
(c) Amagats law.
Solution Air at a low temperature and high pressure is cooled at constant
pressure. The heat transfer is to be determined using three different
approaches.
Assumptions 1 This is a steady-flow process since there is no change with
time at any point and thus mCV 0 and ECV 0. 2 The kinetic and
potential energy changes are negligible.
Analysis We take the cooling section as the system. This is a control volume
since mass crosses the system boundary during the process. We note that
heat is transferred out of the system.
The critical properties are Tcr 126.2 K and Pcr 3.39 MPa for N2 and Tcr
154.8 K and Pcr 5.08 MPa for O2. Both gases remain above their critical
temperatures, but they are also above their critical pressures. Therefore,
air will probably deviate from ideal-gas behavior, and thus it should be
treated as a real-gas mixture.
The energy balance for this steady-flow system can be expressed on a unit mole
basis as
where the enthalpy change for either component can be determined from the
generalized enthalpy departure chart (Fig. A29) and Eq. 1258:
The first two terms on the right-hand side of this equation represent the
ideal-gas enthalpy change of the component. The terms in parentheses represent
the deviation from the ideal-gas behavior, and their evaluation requires a
knowledge of reduced pressure PR and reduced temperature TR, which are
calculated at the mixture temperature Tm and mixture pressure Pm.
(a) If the N2 and O2 mixture is assumed to behave as an ideal gas, the
enthalpy of the mixture will depend on temperature only, and the enthalpy
values at the initial and the final temperatures can be determined from the
ideal-gas tables of N2 and O2 (Tables A18 and A19):
(b) Kays rule is based on treating a gas mixture as a pseudopure substance
whose critical temperature and pressure are
and
Then,
Also,
Therefore,
(c) The reduced temperatures and pressures for both N2 and O2 at the initial
and final states and the corresponding enthalpy departure factors are, from
Fig. A29,
N2:
O2:
From Eq. 1258,
Therefore,
Discussion This result is about 6 percent greater than the result obtained in
part (b) by using Kays rule. But it is more than twice the result obtained by
assuming the mixture to be an ideal gas.
