One use-case where that is useful:

I sometimes stack branches on top of each other. Let's say I have the following tree of PRs/branches:

A -> main
B -> A

I want to know when A is merged so that I merge B afterwards into main.

I neither want to merge B into A first, nor do I want to use the new stacking feature (Not sure how well the new feature plays with squash merges; that's why. Also, stacking is strictly linear; I want to be able to have trees at the moment, although this point is not that important).
