Hi everyone,
I recently discovered a philosophical paradox buried inside my Copilot
subscription, and I felt compelled to share it with the community.
I pay for a full month of Copilot. Naturally, I assumed that means I have
a month's worth of usage — available whenever I need it.
But here's the twist: usage is governed by a weekly request cap, not a
monthly total. So if I happen to use less in week one — maybe I was
traveling, or my project was in a slow phase — those unused requests
don't roll over. They simply vanish. Week two resets with the same cap,
completely indifferent to what I didn't use last week.
It reminds me of this scenario:
You buy a "30 meals this month" dining pass.
The cashier smiles: "Just so you know, max 6 meals per week!"
You only go twice in week one.
The cashier smiles again: "Those 4 meals expired. They don't carry over~"
I fully understand the need to manage server load — that's a reasonable
engineering constraint. But my confusion is this: if the actual limit is
calculated weekly, why is the plan sold on a monthly basis?
For users with uneven usage patterns — travel, holidays, varying project
cycles — this design quietly eats into the value they paid for, without
much transparency.
A few friendly suggestions:
the monthly total
Thanks for reading — happy to discuss 🙏
