Forgot to record? Your layers remember. Wippup turns the drawing file you already saved into a vertical reel of the piece coming together, ready for TikTok, Reels and Shorts.
A process video is one of the best things an artist can post, but a time-lapse only exists if recording was on while you drew, and not everyone records every session. Wippup works after the fact: drop in your Krita or Procreate file, and it builds the piece back up from its layers. If the piece is all on one layer, it builds it darkest first: lines, then shadows, then colour, then light.
Status: planning. Nothing works yet. See ROADMAP.md for what's next.
| You're… | Without Wippup | With Wippup |
|---|---|---|
| learning, and didn't record | the finished piece is all you can post | the file you saved becomes a 15 to 30 second reel of it coming together |
| an artist whose time-lapse was off | the process is gone, since recording can't start in the past | the layers you kept become the steps |
| drawing everything on one layer | there are no steps to show | it reveals the piece darkest first, like inking before colouring |
| posting from an iPad | you export, move files around, and edit the video in another app | it runs in Safari, and Share saves the video to Photos |
| careful with unreleased art | you upload it to an online video maker | nothing leaves your device |
A prototype on 2026-10-25 read a 48 MB Krita file in half a second, matched Krita's own render of it, and made a 20 second 1080 × 1920 MP4 in 12 seconds, all inside the browser.
Planned for 0.1:
- Reads the file you saved: Krita's
.kraand Procreate's.procreate, with their groups, hidden layers, blend modes and opacity. - Builds the piece back up, one layer at a time from the bottom, or darkest first when there's only one drawing layer.
- Captions each step with its layer name, unless it's the app's default, such as "Layer 3".
- Makes a vertical MP4, 1080 × 1920 and 15, 20 or 30 seconds long, with no watermark and no audio, so you add your own sound where you post.
- Saves it where you post from: Share to Photos on an iPad, or a download on a computer.
It never claims the video proves who drew the piece. It shows your process; it isn't evidence of it.
- Nothing leaves your device. Wippup is a static page. There are no uploads, no accounts, no analytics and no network calls beyond loading the page.
- Your file is never changed. Wippup only reads it.
- Open source, so you can check all of this instead of trusting it.
Checked against each tool's own docs on 2026-10-25.
| Wippup (planned) | Procreate Time-lapse | Krita Recorder docker | Clip Studio Paint timelapse | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Works if you didn't record | yes, from the saved layers | no | no | no |
| Recording | none needed | on by default for new canvases | only while you have it switched on | from when you turn it on, and turning it off deletes it |
| What it shows | each layer, or the piece darkest first | every stroke | a snapshot every few seconds or at each stroke | every stroke |
| Export | 9:16, 15 to 30 s | full length or 30 s, at the canvas's shape | scaled from the canvas, rendered with FFmpeg on a computer | 15, 30 or 60 s, or all, in 9:16 among other shapes |
| Runs where | a browser, iPad included | Procreate on iPad | Krita on a computer | Clip Studio Paint |
Use Procreate's time-lapse when it was recording, which it is by default: it shows every stroke, and Wippup can only show layers. Use Krita's Recorder docker or Clip Studio Paint's timelapse for your next piece, if you can turn it on before you start. Wippup is for the pieces where nobody pressed record.
Issues are welcome. Planning lives in ROADMAP.md.
