Description

Restores a repository-root AGENTS.md symlink so Codex CLI can discover the shared instructions within the .github project scope.

Changes Made

  • Added a repository-root AGENTS.md symlink in .github.
  • Pointed the symlink to the canonical AGENTS.md file in aicgs.

Testing Performed

  • Manual review of the symlink target path.
  • Manual review of repository status to confirm the change scope is limited to AGENTS.md.

Post-merge rationale note for the AGENTS.md portion of this change:

This layout was chosen after checking the current OpenAI Codex documentation and then verifying behavior locally. The relevant docs indicate that project-scoped AGENTS.md discovery is bounded by the project root (typically the git root), rather than arbitrary parent directories above it.

We tested the centralized parent-level setup directly and Codex still reported Agents.md: <none> in fresh repo sessions. Based on that evidence, the repo-root AGENTS.md layout was restored for reliable Codex CLI discovery, while keeping a single source of truth by pointing sibling repo-root entries at the canonical file.

Additional concrete findings from the same investigation:

  • Keeping the only AGENTS file in ~/.codex/AGENTS.md was not reliable for repo-scoped Codex CLI discovery in this setup.
  • Moving the file up to /home/atompowered/python_projects/AGENTS.md also did not work; fresh Codex sessions in repo directories still showed Agents.md: <none>.
  • That is why the final layout was changed to repo-root AGENTS.md entries, with symlinks used to preserve one shared source of truth.
