Prior to PR, applying throttle would disable cooldown check.

Main demerit includes:

Local output after bypassing autobump-ed formula block:

  • Before:
    ❯ brew bump renovate
    ==> renovate
    Current formula version:  44.199.0
    Latest livecheck version: 44.206.0 (throttled)

    Open bump pull requests: renovate 44.201.0 (https://github.com/Homebrew/homebrew-core/pull/322913)

    ❯ brew bump checkov
    ==> checkov
    Current formula version:  3.4.0
    Latest livecheck version: 3.4.3 (throttled)
    Duplicate pull requests:  none
    Open bump pull requests:  none
  • After
    ❯ brew bump renovate
    ==> renovate
    Current formula version:  44.199.0
    Latest livecheck version: 44.206.0 (released less than 1 day ago)
    Bump-ready version:       44.199.2
    Duplicate pull requests:  none

    Current formula version:  3.4.0

    Bump-ready version:       3.4.0

  • Have you written new tests (excluding integration tests)? Here's an example.
  • Have you successfully run brew lgtm (style, typechecking and tests) locally?

- Line 1082: **Keep cooldown candidates within the livecheck selection.**

For a days-throttled PyPI package, livecheck can use a regex or strategy block
to exclude versions. The cooldown lookup scans all registry releases without
applying that selection.
([raw.githubusercontent.com](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/brew/006b43038a462027412987e231e67d3856bd5205/Library/Homebrew/livecheck/strategy/pypi.rb))

For example, if livecheck selects `1.2.0` but excludes `1.1.9`, this path can
return `1.1.9` when `1.2.0` is in cooldown. `brew bump --open-pr` can then
propose the excluded version. Apply the livecheck selection to fallback
candidates, or retain the current version when eligibility cannot be
established.

Bug Fixes

  • Cooldown checks now use the throttled version when one is available, falling back to the latest version otherwise.
  • Patch-based throttling returns the throttled version without applying cooldown.
  • A throttled result with no version now produces an error.

The bump command now uses latest_throttled when available for cooldown comparisons. It returns an error if the throttled value is nil. A configured patch-based throttle returns the throttled version without cooldown processing.

version_with_cooldown uses latest_throttled when available and falls back to latest. livecheck_result returns an error when latest_throttled is present but nil. A configured patch-based throttle returns the throttled version without cooldown processing. Otherwise, cooldown processing uses the throttled version when available, or falls back to latest.
Merge Risk: Moderate · up to 006b4

Applying cooldown to days-throttled formulae is the right goal. However, when the newest release is in cooldown, the fallback can still pick a version that livecheck excludes or that the throttle rule rejects. Formulae with both patch and days throttles can also skip cooldown. These cases can lead to wrong autobump pull requests, so resolve them or explicitly accept them before merging.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title names the main change: the bump command now applies the release cooldown check to formulae that are throttled by days. The raw summary confirms the logic change in Library/Homebrew/dev-cmd/bump.rb that makes cooldown run for throttled results instead of bypassing it.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description explains the problem and the change. Before the change, applying a throttle disabled the cooldown check. The description gives before-and-after output for brew bump renovate and brew bump checkov, and it states the risks of autobump PRs that fail and of PRs that bypass cooldown. This matches the changeset in dev-cmd/bump.rb.

Keep cooldown candidates within the livecheck selection.

For a days-throttled PyPI package, livecheck can use a regex or strategy block to exclude versions. The cooldown lookup scans all registry releases without applying that selection. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

For example, if livecheck selects 1.2.0 but excludes 1.1.9, this path can return 1.1.9 when 1.2.0 is in cooldown. brew bump --open-pr can then propose the excluded version. Apply the livecheck selection to fallback candidates, or retain the current version when eligibility cannot be established.
