3-SHAKING HANDS – Serrer les mains
When meeting someone formally for the first time, we shake their hand
and say "How do you do? = enchanté " or "Pleased to meet you =
ravi de vous rencontrer".
Note that we do not initiate the hands shaking with an elderly person or
a person is higher than you in your hierarchy. Doing so is considered
disrespectful.
When young people meet informally, they sometimes say "Give me
five! = prends mes cinq" and slap their hands together (high five).

Generally, we do not shake hands with people we know well in French
culture.
