Common questions

Alimenté par l’IA

To resolve a blowing hydraulic choke nozzle, partially close the choke and monitor if the annular pressure reduces, indicating successful pressure control. Stop the pump and close the HCR valve, then realign the choke manifold using another functional hydraulic nozzle. Pump a low flow rate of mud into the wellbore to create sufficient overbalance, typically around 7 bars, and then reopen the HCR valve to resume control .

Switching mud circuits during a pump failure affects well control by allowing the continuity of mud circulation despite the malfunction. By seamlessly transitioning to a secondary pump, operators can maintain the pressure balance necessary to manage the well effectively, minimizing downtime and ensuring that control conditions are preserved .

Maintaining an overbalance, such as 7 bars, when resolving hydraulic choke issues is essential to ensure that wellbore pressures remain above formation pressures, preventing unwanted influxes and maintaining well stability. This safety margin helps avoid kicks or blowouts during transient states, ensuring operational integrity .

Upon encountering blockages at the drill tool nozzle, initiate the procedure by maintaining pressure at the wellhead until stability is achieved. Shutting down control gradually at intervals of 5 strokes per minute until a complete halt helps in stabilizing the system. Compute a new kill sheet with corrected pressure deficit details, and control is resumed gradually at intervals up to 30 strokes per minute, ensuring stable operations resume without pressure fluctuations .

Adjust valve settings by closing valves CH1, CH8, and CH12, while opening valves CH4, CH11, and CH15 to redirect the flow path towards the secondary choke, ensuring continued control over the well pressure and maintaining system balance during the operation .

When multiple valve failures occur, manually realign the choke manifold by strategically selecting operational valves for opening and closing, especially using backup hydraulic nozzles to maintain only necessary flow paths. This selective realignment helps bypass faulty sections while preserving operational integrity and ensuring effective pressure management .

Corrective actions for a plugged bit nozzle include opening the hydraulic nozzle to adjust pressure. Stop the drilling pump immediately, then close the hydraulic nozzle to isolate the issue. Align the choke manifold using an alternative hydraulic nozzle, allowing for pressure release and maintaining an adequate safety margin before resuming control operations .

Recalculating a kill sheet after a nozzle blockage must consider the newly established pressure drops, any changes in expected flow rate or mud density, and alterations in operational dynamics such as adjusted stroke counts. These factors ensure the revised kill sheet accurately reflects the current system state and supports effective pressure management .

The choke manifold control panel components have specific roles: 1. The pressure indicator on the drill string monitors the internal pressure to ensure stability during drilling. 2. The annular pressure indicator tracks the well's outer pressure to detect any adverse changes. 3. The pump speed display (spm) allows the operator to adjust and monitor fluid flow. 4. The stroke count displays the number of pump strokes executed, critical for assessing the volume of fluid pumped. 5. The valve position indicator provides the status of valve openings to guide operations. 6-8. Regulators and selectors for air intake, choke size, and pump choice allow operators to adjust flow and pressure manually, ensuring precise control. 9-11. The manual controls for choke opening/closing and stroke count management are essential for maintaining desired flow rates and pressure levels .

During a total pump failure in a kick evacuation, the correct management involves several steps: 1. Immediately stop the affected pump to prevent further complications. 2. Switch the mud circuit to a backup pump with similar pressure characteristics to ensure continuity in the flow process. 3. Resume control using the same kill sheet, ensuring pressure parameters align similarly to maintain the established control protocol .
