1. Objectives of the Lab Session
At the end of this session, the student will be able to:
Understand the structure of a thermal power plant
Identify the subsystems of a turbo-generator unit
Analyze the dynamic stability of a synchronous generator connected to the
grid
Study the effect of a three-phase fault
Evaluate the influence of series compensation
2. Theoretical Background
A thermal power plant converts:
Thermal Energy → Mechanical Energy → Electrical Energy
The Simulink model includes:

Steps
1. Open the model in Simulink.
2. Run the simulation without any fault.
3. Observe the following variables:

2. Is the voltage close to 1 pu?
3. Is the system stable in steady state?
4. How does the rotor angle evolve?
4. Part B: Study of a Three-Phase Fault
A three-phase fault is applied at the peak of phase voltage Van.
