Pasemos a analizar la estructura del tercer condicional en inglés :
If + sujeto + past perfect, + sujeto + would + have + verbo en pasado participio
If you had cooked last night, the food would have been more Delicious
Si tú hubieras cocinado anoche, la comida hubiera estado más rica
¿Qué es y cuándo se usa el tercer condicional en inglés?
Puntualmente, el tercer condicional en inglés se usa para expresar una situación que no sucedió y
como consecuencia, su resultado se esperaba que fuera diferente.
En palabras más simples, esto quiere decir que, si algo que hubiera pasado de otra forma, hubiera
tenido una consecuencia esperada diferente a la que ya pasó.
Ese famoso «hubiera» que nos hace volar con la imaginación porque son sucesos irreales en este
caso.
Asimismo, es importante que entendamos el objetivo principal de este tercer condicional en inglés
que es el más complejo de todos, pero solo al principio.
Estudiemos ahora cada uno de los siguientes casos del tercer condicional estructura afirmativo,
negativo e interrogativo:

A veces, en vez de would se utilizan otros verbos modales como could, might:
