Caso 1
You work for an insurance company and are asked to calculate the present
value of a claim. The following information is provided:
1. Claim payments are made at the beginning of each year for 15 years.
2. The first payment amount is $1,000 and is payable immediately.
3. Subsequent payments increase by 3% every year.
4. The annual effective interest rate is 6%.
Calculate the present value of the claim based on the information given.
1,000 1,000 (1.03) 1,000 (1.03)^2 1,000 (1.03)^3 … 1,000 (1.03)^14
T=0 1 2 3 … 14 15
(𝐺𝑎̈ )𝑛⏋𝑖,𝑟 = (1 + 𝑖)(𝐺𝑎)𝑛⏋𝑖,𝑟
1+𝑟 𝑛
1 − (1 + 𝑖 )
= (1 + 𝑖)
𝑖−𝑟

PV = 1,000 𝑎̈ 15⏋𝑖 ′ =2.9126% = 12,363.65
1. N =15
2. I/Y = 2.91
3. PMT = -1,000 (1+0.029126) = -1,029.1262
4. FV = 0
5. CPT + PV = 12,363.65
Caso 2
Lisa makes deposits into a bank account at the end of every month for 5 years. Her
first deposit one month from today is $150, and every subsequent deposit
is 100k% greater than the previous month's deposit. Interest for the account is 6%
compounded monthly.
The balance in Anna's account at the end of 5 years is $11,400.
Calculate k.

1. N = 59

Caso 3
Isaac purchases a 20-year annuity paying $800 at the end of the first year, $1,300 at
the end of the second year, $1,800 at the end of the third year, etc. The annual
effective interest rate is 6%.
Calculate the price of this annuity

𝑃𝑉 = 800(11.4699) + 500 ( )

𝑃𝑉 = 52,791.16
500 500 (20) 20
𝑃𝑉 = (800 + ) 𝒂𝟐𝟎⏋ + (− )𝑣
0.06 0.06
1. N =20

Caso 4
A perpetuity-immediate pays $100 at the end of the first year. Subsequent payments
increase by $100 from previous payments until the payment amount reaches $1,500.
Payments then remain at $1,500 thereafter.
Determine the present value of this perpetuity using an annual effective interest rate
of 6.5%.
Observa que P = Q

Caso 5
A perpetuity pays $6 at the end of the first year, $13 at the end of the fourth year, $20 at
the end of the seventh year, and so on. Using an annual effective interest rate of 5%,
calculate the present value of this perpetuity. Calculate Z.

𝑗 = (1 + 0.05)3 − 1 = 0.15625
forma:
𝑃 𝑄
𝑃𝑉 = +
𝑖 𝑖2
6 7
+ = 319.8046
0.15625 0.156252
𝑃𝑉 = 319.8046 (1.05)2 = 352.58
Caso 6
Jane borrows $5,000 and plans to repay the loan with level monthly installments for
three years. If the rate of interest charged on the loan is an annual nominal rate of 8%
convertible quarterly, what is her monthly payment amount if the first payment is
made immediately?
Convertimos el tipo nominal a tipo efectivo mensual

Caso 7
An annuity pays $120 at the beginning of every quarter for 6 years. Given an annual
nominal interest rate of 6% compounded monthly, calculate its present value.

Caso 9
You are given the following payments:

15 to 22 22
23 to 25 13
Calculate the present value of the payments using and annual effective interest rate
of 5%.
