Sirve para designar sujetos en singular, plural, masculino y femenino


Es definido porque se refiere a un sujeto específico.
Se usa para referirse a zonas geográficas, rios, coordilleras, canales, océanos y mares
Cuando se habla de los miembros de una familia como grupo, se usa el artículo the antes del apellido en
plural.
Con las décadas
Con superlativos y ordinales
Se emplea para referirse a cosas o personas que son únicas en el mundo, son algo único y especial.
Con paises de nombre en plural o que tengan la palabra republic, kingdom o states.

Se utiliza para referirse a sujetos en masculino y femenino pero SOLO EN SINGULAR
