2. Uso
Las question tags son pequeñas preguntas-“coletilla” (el significado de tag) al final de una frase.
Corresponden a las expresiones: ¿no?, ¿verdad? ¿cierto?
3. Forma
A diferencia del español y el valenciano, estas coletillas no son fijas sino que cambian según el
verbo y el sujeto usado en la frase.
o La question tag tiene forma interrogativa (por lo tanto hay inversión de verbo / sujeto) y
siempre va en sentido contrario del verbo de la frase, es decir:
Si la frase es afirmativa, la question tag es negativa:
It’s very hot, isn’t it? Hace mucho calor, ¿no?
Si la frase es negativa, la question tag es afirmativa.
They won’t help us, will they? No nos ayudarán, ¿verdad?
o La question tag siempre usa una forma de un verbo auxiliar (be, have, do, will, would) o un
modal (can, could, should, must, etc.).
o En la question tag sólo se usan pronombres.
John didn’t seem very happy, did he?
John no parecía muy feliz, ¿verdad?
That’s really strange, isn’t it?
Es muy raro, ¿no?
Casos especiales:
1. la question tag de I am es aren’t I?
I’m doing it OK, am I not? – I’m doing it OK, aren’t I?
Lo estoy haciendo bien, ¿verdad?
2. la question tag de Let’s … es shall we?
Let’s finish with this, shall we?
Acabemos con esto, ¿de acuerdo?
3. la question tag de un imperativo es will you?
Close the door and sit down, will you?
Cierra de puerta y siéntate, ¿de acuerdo?

4. cuando el sujeto de la oración es this o that, el sujeto de la question tag es it.
