"Be" (Presente: ser, estar y otros significados)
Sujeto y uso del pronombre
● I: Se usa cuando hablas de ti mismo.
Ejemplo: I am tired. (Estoy cansado).
● You: Para referirse a una o más personas (tú/ustedes).
Ejemplo: You are my friend. (Eres mi amigo).
● He: Se refiere a un hombre o un animal macho identificado.
Ejemplo: He is my brother. (Él es mi hermano).
● She: Para una mujer o un animal hembra identificado.
Ejemplo: She is at home. (Ella está en casa).
● It: Se usa para cosas, animales (cuando no sabemos su género), tiempo atmosférico, horas y situaciones.
Ejemplos:
○ It is cold. (Hace frío).
○ It is 5 o’clock. (Son las 5 en punto).
● We: Para referirnos a nosotros.
Ejemplo: We are at the park. (Estamos en el parque).
● They: Para hablar de varias personas, animales o cosas.
Ejemplo: They are my cats. (Ellos son mis gatos).
Otros significados de be
Aunque comúnmente se traduce como ser o estar, tiene otros usos:
● Tiempo atmosférico:
Ejemplo: It is sunny today. (Está soleado hoy).
● Edad:
Ejemplo: I am 29 years old. (Tengo 29 años).
● Sentimientos o estados físicos:
Ejemplo: I am hot. (Tengo calor).
Formas afirmativas (completas y cortas)
El verbo be cambia según el sujeto y puede usarse como verbo principal o como auxiliar (lo veremos más adelante).

Formas negativas
Para negar, agregamos not después del verbo be. También hay formas cortas:

Formas del pasado:

"Be" en futuro
Se forma con will + be:
★ Ejemplo: I will be happy. (Seré feliz).

El verbo be también se usa como auxiliar en: simples
continuos perfectos
1. Tiempos continuos:
○ I am studying English. (Estoy estudiando inglés). present continuous

2. Voz pasiva: I was born in March.

Uso de There is / There are (Para indicar existencia) (haber)
Formas afirmativas
● There is (singular): There is a car outside. (Hay un coche afuera.)
● There are (plural): There are many people at the party. (Hay muchas personas en la fiesta.)
Formas negativas
Para negar, usamos there is not o there are not. Las formas cortas son there isn’t y there aren’t.
● There isn’t (No hay): There isn’t a pen on the table. (No hay una pluma en la mesa.)
● There aren’t (No hay): There aren’t any books on the shelf. (No hay libros en la estantería.)

Se usa más en inglés británico para indicar posesión.
