Los pronombres personales son


Personal Pronouns: usados para sustituir al sujeto
principal de una oración.

Verb To Be:

Tiene tres formas de
She (ella) Is (es, está))
usarse en presente

En las oraciones afirmativas, la ESTRUCTURA es la siguiente:

Subject + To Be + Complement.

► The exercise is long. (El ejercicio es largo.)


It is long.
► John is intelligent. (John es inteligente.)
He is intelligent.
► Mrs. Brown is attractive. (La Sra. Brown es atractiva.)
She is attractive.
En las oraciones negativas, la ESTRUCTURA es la siguiente:

Subject + To Be + not + Complement.

► The exercise is long. → The exercise is not long.


(El ejercicio es largo) (El ejercicio no es largo)
► John is intelligent. → John is not intelligent.
(John es inteligente.) (John no es inteligente.)
► Mrs. Brown is attractive. → Mrs. Brown is not attractive.

La negación siempre debe ir d e s p u é s del verbo To Be.

En las oraciones interrogativas, la ESTRUCTURA es la siguiente:

Los adjetivos NO se pluralizan, por lo tanto siempre estarán escritos de la misma


forma. Lo que se encontrará en plural será el sustantivo.

Los números también forman parte de los


adjetivos.

Las contracciones negativas serían:

► The puppy isn’t big. (El cachorro no es grande.)

► I’m an English student. (Soy un estudiante de inglés.)
► The books aren’t new. (Los libros no son nuevos.)

Es común encontrarse las contracciones en las respuestas a


preguntas:

► Is your brother a lawyer? (¿Es tu hermano un abogado?)


No, he isn’t a lawyer. (No, él no es un abogado.)
► Are they English teachers? (¿Son ellos profesores de inglés?)
Yes, they’re English teachers. (Si, ellos son profesores de inglés.)
► Is the cat small? (¿Es el gato pequeño?)
Yes, it’s small. (Si, es pequeño.)
► Are you a doctor? (¿Eres tú un doctor?)
No, I’m not a doctor. (No, no soy un doctor.)
(Plurals)

A la mayoría de los sustantivos se les coloca una «s» al final para


cambiarlo a su forma en plural, pero también existen unas reglas a
seguir dependiendo de como terminen dichas palabras:

Spelling Rules:

1) Cuando el sustantivo termina en “S, CH, SH, X, Z, O”, se coloca “es” al final:
Bus – buses church – churches fox – foxes tomato – tomatoes
Excepto: photo – photos piano – pianos avocado – avocados kilo – kilos

2) Cuando el sustantivo termina en “F” o “FE”, se elimina la “F” y se coloca “v +


es”
Wife – wives wolf – wolves leaf – leaves shelf - shelves

3) Cuando la palabra termina en “consonante + Y”, se elimina la “Y” y se


coloca “ies” al final de la palabra.
Baby – babies candy – candies pony – ponies party – parties

4) Cuando el sustantivo termina en en “vocal + Y”, se coloca directamente


una “S” final de la palabra.
Boy – boys toy – toys day – days bay – bays

5) Algunas palabras se mantienen igual tanto en singular como en plural.


Fish – fish deer – deer sheep – sheep tuna – tuna salmon – salmon

6) Algunas palabras cambian al colocarse en plural.


Man – men woman – women child – children person – people
Tooth – teeth mouse – mice foot – feet ox – oxen goose – geese
(In – On - At)

Forman parte de las preposiciones, las cuales nos ayudan a mostrar la


relación entre sustantivos.

IN: en, dentro. Se utiliza cuando el sustantivo se encuentra en


espacios cerrados, dentro de objetos o lugares con límites definidos
(ciudades, países) Exp:

IN the house IN the living room IN my room IN the box

ON: en, sobre. Se utiliza para indicar que el sustantivo se encuentra


sobre una superficie, para indicar una dirección, medios de
transporte (excepto car, taxi, van & truck) Exp:

ON the table ON the left ON a bus ON the wall

AT: en, junto a. Se usa cuando el sustantivo está en algún lugar


común, lugares específicos, direcciones, sitios concretos de un
establecimiento. Exp:

AT school AT N.Y University AT 2569 Maple Street AT the door

La palabra DOWNTOWN (centro) no utiliza preposición.

También llamadas Preguntas Abiertas. Las preguntas de información


(WH- Questions) son usadas para preguntar por una información
específica, por lo tanto NO pueden ser respondidas con Yes o No.

También llamadas Preguntas Cerradas ya que, al contrario de las Preguntas


Abiertas, no permiten otro tipo de respuesta que no sea de Yes o No.
La estructura al momento de usar respuestas cortas (short answers) es:

Los verbos deben sufrir un 1) Cuando el verbo termina en “S, CH, SH, X, Z, O”,
pequeño cambio cuando el se coloca “es” al final:
sujeto es HE, SHE o IT.
Fix– fixes watch –watches

2) Cuando el verbo termina en “consonante + Y”, se elimina la “Y” y se


coloca “ies” al final del verbo.

Study – studies carry – carries cry – cries

3) Cuando el verbo termina en en “vocal + Y”, se coloca directamente


una “S” al final del verbo.

Play – plays buy – buys pay – pays

Esto NO significa que el verbo se encuentra en « plural ». Este cambio quiere


decir que el verbo se encuentra en 3ra persona singular, es decir que el sujeto
es HE, SHE o IT.

En plural el verbo se mantiene en su forma simple.

► I have one brother. ► Lucas has one sister.


(Yo tengo un hermano.) (Lucas tiene una hermana.)

► The boys play soccer. ► That boy plays soccer.


(Los chicos juegan fútbol.) (Aquél chico juega fútbol.)

► Those girls study German. ► Jennie studies French.


(Aquellas chicas estudian alemán.) (Jennie estudia francés.)

► My sisters live in London. ► My brother lives in Japan.


(Mis hermanas viven en Londres.) (Mi hermano vive en Japón.)
