Hoy tenemos a Mireya quien
nos contará un poco de su experiencia en el Carnaval de Barranquilla.
Hola Mireya, ¿cómo estás? Estoy muy feliz de tenerte aquí para esta sesión. Cuéntanos sobre
este festival y cuándo comienza.
Hola bien gracias, bueno te cuento el carnaval de barranquilla es la fiesta más importante en
la que le dan vida y muerte a Joselito Carnaval con música, danzas, fiestas, colores. El
Carnaval de Barranquilla comienza generalmente a finales de febrero o principios de marzo,
coincidiendo con el fin de semana anterior al miércoles de ceniza.
¡Suena maravilloso! Imagino que debe haber algún plato representativo para esta ocasión.
¿Qué es?
Claro Camila te cuento durante el carnaval, se pueden disfrutar de platos típicos como el
sancocho de gallina, la butifarra, el arroz con coco, las empanadas de huevo, entre otros.
¡Deliciosos platos típicos! Ahora cuéntanos un poco sobre el clima, la cultura y la vestimenta
típica durante esta festividad.
El clima de la ciudad de Barranquilla es de tipo tropical seco con una temperatura promedio
de veintisiete grados centígrados, su vestimenta típica durante el carnaval incluye disfraces
coloridos y llamativos, máscaras, trajes tradicionales como el traje de marimonda, el de
Congo. En el carnaval se refleja la rica diversidad cultural de la región caribeña de Colombia,
con influencias africanas, indígenas y europeas.
¡Todo suena increíble! Creo que a todos les gustaría saber sobre las actividades que se
suelen realizar, la música durante esta época y cómo coronan a la reina del festival.
Claro durante el carnaval se llevan a cabo desfiles de comparsas, carrozas y disfraces,
conciertos, muestras folclóricas, eventos deportivos, y más. La música y el baile son
elementos centrales del carnaval, con ritmos como la cumbia, el vallenato, la champeta, el
mapalé y se realizan conciertos en diferentes puntos de la ciudad, con artistas nacionales e
internacionales. La reina del Carnaval de Barranquilla es elegida anualmente a través de un
concurso de belleza.
Con todo lo que nos cuentas me parece una experiencia increíble y representativa del

Welcome to a new festival information session. Today we have Mireya who will tell us a little
about her experience at the Barranquilla Carnival.
Hello Mireya, how are you? I am very happy to have you here for this session. Tell us about
this festival and when it starts.
Hello Camila, very good. The Barranquilla carnival is the most important festival in which
they give life and death to Joselito Carnaval with music, dances, parties and colors which
generally begins at the end of February or beginning of March, coinciding with the weekend
before Wednesday of ash.
Sounds wonderful! I imagine there must be some representative dish for this occasion. What
is it?
Camila, I'll tell you during the carnival, you can enjoy typical dishes such as chicken
sancocho, butifarra, coconut rice, egg empanadas, among others.
Delicious typical dishes! Now tell us a little about the climate, culture and typical clothing
during this festival.
The climate of the city of Barranquilla is dry tropical with an average temperature of twenty-
seven degrees Celsius, its typical clothing during the carnival includes colorful and striking
costumes, masks, traditional costumes such as the marimonda costume, that of Congo. The
carnival reflects the rich cultural diversity of the Caribbean region of Colombia, with African,
indigenous and European influences.
Everything sounds amazing! I think everyone would like to know about the activities that are
usually carried out, the music during this time and how the queen of the festival is crowned.
Of course, during the carnival there are parades, floats and costumes, concerts, folklore
displays, sporting events, and more. Music and dance are central elements of the carnival,
with rhythms such as cumbia, vallenato, champeta, Mapalé and concerts are held in different
parts of the city, with national and international artists. The queen of the Barranquilla Carnival
is chosen annually through a beauty contest.
