Lección 1 Lesson 1
Día 1 Day 1
Parte 1. Texto Part 1. Text
¡Hola! Hi!
Yo soy Felipe. I am Felipe.
Yo tengo treinta años1. I am 30 years old.
Soy un hombre2. I am a man.
1
When you want to say how old you are, you literally say “I have --- years”. You don't say “Yo soy 30 años”, or “I am 30 years old”, but rather “Yo tengo 30 años”,
literally “I have 30 years". Maybe it's a little weird, but you'll get used to it. Just listen, listen and listen!
2
Did you notice that there is no “Yo” at the beginning of the sentence? It is because it is optional in Spanish. You can actually just say “Soy Felipe” or, “Am Felipe”.
Easy, right?
3
In order to form a negative, just place the word "no" in front of the verb. "No" means both "no" and don't".
4
Here is something interesting: in Spanish, there are upside-down exclamation marks and question marks! This may look strange, but it is just a unique feature of
Spanish. When you see an upside-down exclamation mark at the beginning of a sentence, it just helps you to know in advance what the tone of the sentence it is. And
of course, if you see an upside-down question mark at the beginning of a sentence (¿), you know in advance that the sentence is a question. It's actually really helpful
sometimes!
¡Adiós! Bye!
Oscar’s comment
Wow! A new course, a new methodology...This may be
overwhelming! But don't worry. You will get used to it very soon!
As you can see, you are listening repetitively. This is how we
learned our native language when we were kids: listening to the
same patterns over and over again from our parents.
Lección 2 Lesson 2
Día 2 Day 2
Parte 1. Texto Part 1. Text
¡Hola! Hi!
5
Have you noticed the little marks over some of the letters like "difícil"? They look sort of like little apostrophes. They are called “accent marks”. Don't let them
confuse you, they are just there. You'll get used to it!
6
Notice how when referring to the Spanish language, in Spanish, they say “el español”. It is like saying “the Spanish.” This isn't how we say it in English, but in Spanish,
sometimes the word “the” is used, even when it wouldn't be used in English.
Oscar’s comment
Day 2! Awesome! This course still feels new, but you are doing
great!
By the way, did you know that there is always a key moment for a
student who is learning a language? This interesting, and
important moment is when the person becomes an independent
learner. Why? Because from this moment, you take on full
responsibility. It is all up to you: the time you spend learning, the
consistency and finally, the results!
Lección 3 Lesson 3
Día 3 Day 3
Parte 1. Texto Part 1. Text
¿Cómo estás? How are you?
7
The words that describe things, like "grande", which means "big" come usually after nouns. You'll get used to it, just keep listening!
Yo quiero aprender idiomas. Quiero aprender idiomas para viajar. I want to learn languages. I want to learn languages for traveling.
¿Por qué quiero aprender idiomas? Why do I want to learn languages?
Para viajar. Porque quiero viajar. For traveling. Because I want to travel.
Oscar’s comment
In the last comment, I talked about becoming an independent
learner. This is a powerful step and it is an important
breakthrough.
Lección 4 Lesson 4
Día 4 Day 4
Parte 1. Texto Part 1. Text
Hola, ¿Cómo estás? Hi! How are you?
Yo tengo un amigo y él se llama Diego. I have a friend and his name is Diego.
Él vive en una casa grande. He lives in a big house.
Él es muy agradable e8 inteligente. He is very nice and intelligent.
8
You may have noticed something funny in the last sentence. The word "and" seems to have changed. It is just because it is placed before a word that begins with "i".
Don't let this confuse you, it's just easier to say than "y inteligente". Just keep listening!
Oscar’s comment
Day 4. Wow, this is going fast! Let me talk today about the time
you spend on the lessons. The course was designed to be
completed in 31 days, spending one hour per day, but this is only
a point of reference.
You can spend more than one hour per day if you want to. This
would help you to consolidate your skills. You can also repeat a
day if you wish. It is up to you! The only thing that it is not
recommended is to finish the course in less than one month. If
you have a lot of free time, you can review old lessons. The more
you listen, the more you consolidate!
Lección 5 Lesson 5
Día 5 Day 5
Parte 1. Texto Part 1. Text
Hola, ¡soy Felipe! Hi! I am Felipe!
Mi amigo Diego habla chino. My friend Diego speaks Chinese.
El chino es el9 idioma oficial de China. Chinese is the official language of China.
Yo prefiero aprender español. I prefer to learn Spanish.
9
You may have noticed that there are two ways of saying "the" ("el" and "la") as well as two ways of saying "a" ("un" and "una"). Which one to use depends on the
word that comes after is "masculine" or "feminine". But how do you know which words are feminine or masculine? Well, in addition to lots of listening, you can look
for a few clues. Most feminine words end in “a”. Most masculine words
end in “o”. Pretty simple, right? Of course there are a few exceptions, for example “idioma” is a masculine word, even though it ends in an “a”. But don't worry! The
more you listen, the more you'll get used to it. It becomes natural overtime. Don't try to memorize it!
¿Es el francés el idioma oficial de china? Is French the official language of China?
¡No! El francés no es el idioma oficial de china. No! French is not the official language of China.
¿Es el chino el idioma oficial de Japón? Is Chinese the official language of Japan?
No. El chino no es el idioma oficial de Japón. El chino es el idioma No. Chinese is not the official language of Japan. Chinese is the
oficial de China. official language of China.
Español. Yo prefiero aprender español, no italiano. Spanish. I prefer to learn Spanish, not Italian.
¿Qué prefiero? What do I prefer?
Aprender español. Yo prefiero aprender español. To learn Spanish. I prefer to learn Spanish.
¿Qué idioma prefiero yo aprender? Which language do I prefer to learn?
Español. Yo prefiero aprender español. No prefiero aprender Spanish. I prefer to learn Spanish. I don't prefer to learn
italiano. Italian.
¿Qué prefiero? What do I prefer?
Aprender español. Yo prefiero aprender español. To learn Spanish. I prefer to learn Spanish.
Yo prefiero aprender español. Mi amigo también prefiere I prefer to learn Spanish. My friend also prefers to
aprender español. learn Spanish.
Nosotros no hablamos chino. Mi amigo y yo preferimos We don't speak Chinese. My friend and I prefer to
aprender español. learn Spanish.
Oscar’s comment
Let's talk about the Q&A technique. What is the main purpose? Is it
to be able to form long, elaborate, elegant answers? No! The main
purpose is to be able to answer quickly and almost without
translating in your mind.
Therefore, it is recommended to give short answers like "Sí", "No",
"Diego", "Chino", ...but you can give more complex answers if you
feel confident. You can read the transcript if you need to, but try
to just listen as well. This is a very powerful technique and it has
helped many students to learn a language.
Lección 6 Lesson 6
Día 6 Day 6
Parte 1. Texto Part 1. Text
Hola, ¡buenos días! Hello, good morning!
10
Take a look at the phrase “yo tengo que”. It is just like “I have to” in English. It is very easy once you get used to it.
¿Quién tiene que estudiar más español? Who has to study more Spanish?
Yo. Yo tengo que estudiar más español. Me. I have to study more Spanish.
¿Qué tengo que estudiar? What do I have to study?
Español. Tengo que estudiar el idioma español. Spanish. I have to study the Spanish language.
Oscar’s comment
You may have noticed some footer's notes. The main reason they
are there is to help you notice some aspects of the language and
therefore to understand better how it works.
You don't have to memorize anything. Just read it, think a few
seconds about it and that's it. The notes are not exhaustive
because that would be counterproductive. Too many
explanations about how the language works can easily hurt your
ability to acquire the language, because we would be analyzing
too much. Sporadic notes about the language is the best option
at this point.
Lección 7 Lesson 7
Día 7 Day 7
Parte 1. Texto Part 1. Text
Hola, soy Felipe. ¿Cómo estás? Hi!, I am Felipe. How are you?
Por la mañana11 escucho una hora de audio. In the morning I listen to one hour of Spanish.
Por la tarde, leo un libro en español. In the afternoon, I read a book in Spanish.
Por la noche, ¡duermo! At night, I sleep!
11
Take a look at the phrase “por la mañana”. This means “in the morning” in English. Rather than saying “en la mañana”, translating the phrase the way we say it in
English, but with Spanish words the phrase is constructed differently. Just learn to notice these things, and with time, they will all become very natural.
Oscar’s comment
Did you know that after Latin, the language that has had the
biggest influence on Spanish is Arabic?
Today, the foreign language exerting the most influence is
English, and Spanish has adopted hundreds of English words
related to culture, technology, sports, etc.
Lección 8 Lesson 8
Día 8 Day 8
Parte 1. Texto Part 1. Text
Hola, ¿qué tal? Hello, how are you?
Ayer hablé con mi amigo Diego.
Él estuvo en mi casa. Yesterday I spoke with my friend Diego.
Diego y yo hablamos sobre el aprendizaje de idiomas. He was at my house.
We spoke about language learning.
12
Take a look at the word “hablé”. It is the past tense of the word “hablar”, which means “to speak”. To form the past tense, you can just take away the last syllable
and replace it with "é" in many cases.
¿Hablé ayer o la semana pasada con Diego? Did I speak with Diego yesterday or last week.
Ayer. Yo hablé ayer con Diego, mi amigo. La semana pasada yo Yesterday. Yesterday I spoke with Diego, my friend. Last week I
no hablé con Diego. didn't speak with Diego.
¿Cuándo hablé con mi amigo Diego? When did I speak with my friend Diego?
Ayer. Ayer hablé con mi amigo Diego. Yesterday. Yesterday I spoke with my friend Diego.
Ahora, él está en mi casa. Yo estoy en mi casa con él. Now, he is at my house. I am at my house with him.
Nosotros queremos hablar sobre el aprendizaje de idiomas. We want to talk about language learning.
Queremos hablar sobre como entender y escribir mejor un We want to talk about how to understand and write better in a
idioma nuevo. Estamos contentos de hablar sobre idiomas. new language. We are happy to talk about languages.
Oscar’s comment
Exercises. Why aren't there any typical exercises? I don't want the
students to just listen a few minutes and then complete boring
exercises. You need a lot of listening, a lot of active learning in
order to get used to the language.
Lección 9 Lesson 9
Día 9 Day 9
Parte 1. Texto Part 1. Text
¡Buenos días! Good morning!
13
During the course, you'll see "por qué" or "porque". The first one is used in questions, and the second one is used in answers. Please don't try to learn any rule! It
becomes familiar when you see it many times. Just keep up the good work!
¿Qué quiere Diego? ¿Qué quiere? What does Diego want? What does he want?
Diego quiere ir a China. Él no quiere ir a Diego wants to go to China. He doesn't want to go to Canada. I
Canadá. Yo no quiero ir a China. Diego sí quiere ir don't want to go to China. Diego does want to go to
a China. China.
Oscar’s comment
Lección 10 Lesson 10
Día 10 Day 10
Parte 1. Texto Part 1. Text
Hola, ¿cómo te va? Hello, how is it going?
En internet14, Diego compra el billete de avión. Diego buys a plane ticket online.
Él paga mil dólares por el billete. He pays one thousand dollars for the ticket.
Él está contento porque viaja a China. He is happy, because he is traveling to China.
14
Notice that in Spanish, we say “en Internet”. To say “on the internet” or “online”. It is literally like saying “in internet”. Different, isn't it? But it's okay, you'll get used
to this, too!
en internet. the
internet.
¿Dónde?
En internet. Diego compra un billete en internet. Where?
Over the internet. Diego buys a ticket over the internet.
¿Qué compra Diego?
Un billete de avión. Él compra un billete de avión. What does Diego buy?
A plane ticket. He buys a plane ticket.
Tú viajas a China solo, sin tu amigo. You are travelling to China alone, without your friend.
Oscar’s comment
You may have noticed that I usually start Part 1 with a greeting. I
also finish Part 5 (last part) with a "good bye" expression. These are
very common expressions used on a daily basis by native
speakers. Please don't try to memorize them! Just enjoy them and
get familiar with them. Building up vocabulary and expressions is
a long process, but it can be enjoyable and it may take less time
than expected!
Lección 11 Lesson 11
Día 11 Day 11
Parte 1. Texto Part 1. Text
Hola, ¡qué gusto de verte otra vez! Hi, nice to see you again!
15
In Spanish, to say you are going “by plane” you say “en avión”, or “in plane”. Also, to say you are doing something on a particular day, for example “on Monday”,
you say “the Monday”, or “el lunes.”
Oscar’s comment
The main problem of many students is losing motivation. When
the novelty is gone, then all kinds of excuses for not studying
come up. Even I am guilty of this! Currently you are on day 11!!!
Maybe spending one hour a day starts to feel a bit like a routine.
Well, the good news is that you are little by little getting used to
the language, you are improving and best of all, you are closer
than you think to being able to have a basic, albeit consolidated
knowledge of Spanish, so...keep going!
Lección 12 Lesson 12
Día 12 Day 12
Parte 1. Texto Part 1. Text
¡Buenos días! ¿Cómo estás? Good morning! How are you?
16
In Spanish, to say “happy to be”, you say “happy from to be”, or “contento de estar”. It is just a pattern that you'll get used to. Keep it up!
Oscar’s comment
Here's an interesting fact about the Spanish pronunciation: Every
sound is written exactly how it is pronounced. For example, every
time you see a "la" in the middle of a word, you can be sure that
it's always pronounced the same.
Lección 13 Lesson 13
Día 13 Day 13
Parte 1. Texto Part 1. Text
¡Hola amigo! Hello my friend!
Cada día escucho una hora de español. Every day I listen to one hour of Spanish.
Yo leo el texto mientras17 yo escucho. I read the text while I listen.
Me gusta el sonido del español porque es agradable. I like the sound of Spanish because it is nice.
17
Take a look at the word “mientras”. It means “during” or “while”.
No. Diego no escucha español. Yo, Felipe, escucho No. Diego doesn't listen to Spanish. I, Felipe, listen to Spanish.
español.
Who listens to Spanish?
¿Quién escucha español? Me. I listen to Spanish.
Yo. Yo escucho español.
How much time?
¿Cuánto tiempo? One hour. I listen to one hour.
Una hora. Escucho una hora.
¡Ahora pienso que el español es fácil. Now I think that Spanish is easy.
¡Adiós! Bye!
Oscar’s comment
What if you stopped the course in the middle and after some time
you want to continue? First of all, don't feel guilty. It can happen. It
has happened to me! Once you have decided to continue, I
would recommend to listen at least once to all the previous
lessons (it is about 5 minutes per day, so it is not so much). If you
feel a bit demotivated, you can always post at La Cafeteria. We are
there to help each other!
Lección 14 Lesson 14
Día 14 Day 14
Parte 1. Texto Part 1. Text
¡Hola! Hi!
18
Take a look at the word “hay”. It is like saying “there are” or “there is”. In this case, “hay mucha comida picante”, it means “there is a lot of spicy food.”
19
Notice the phrase “algún día”, which means “one day”.
Oscar’s comment
When you are learning a new language, too much vocabulary at
the beginning can be overwhelming. I checked some courses for
beginners and they tend to clutter the course with too much
vocabulary.
Lección 15 Lesson 15
Día 15 Day 15
Parte 1. Texto Part 1. Text
¿Qué tal el día? How is your day?
20
Here is a little tip: check out the word “normalmente”, meaning “normally”. The words in English that end in “-ly” are almost always the same in Spanish, but they
end in “-mente”. See if you can understand the following words: Normalmente, extremadamente, inmediatamente, radicalmente. Now you have so many words that
you can automáticamente....I mean...automatically...add to your vocabulary! Spanish is easy, isn't it?
Voy con mi amigo Diego. Vamos a un restaurante a comer. I am going with my friend Diego. We are going to a restaurant to

Comemos bien. La comida del restaurante es cara, pero buena. well. The food from the restaurant is expensive, but good. See
¡Te veo mañana! you tomorrow!
Oscar’s comment
Wow, you are already in the middle of the course! Well done! See?
It is not so hard after all!
Lección 16 Lesson 16
Día 16 Day 16
Parte 1. Texto Part 1. Text
Día 16. Parte 1. Day 16. Part 1.
21
Here is a little tip: For the 3rd person past tense (he/she spoke, he/she bought, he/she had), you almost always simply need to change the last syllable to an ó. Ella
habló (she spoke), Diego volvió (Diego returned), él compró (he bought). Not so difficult, after all!
Oscar’s comment
Do you have to memorize while using the lessons? Not at all! The
beauty of this system, is that you just have to get exposed to the
language. You can't schedule what words you can learn in
advance (unless you want to learn shallowly).
Lección 17 Lesson 17
Día 17 Day 17
Parte 1. Texto Part 1. Text
Muy bien, ¡empecemos! Very good, let's start!
Diego quiere empezar a estudiar japonés. Diego wants to begin studying Japanese.
Él dice que el japonés es fácil. He says Japanese is easy.
Él sabe chino y ahora quiere aprender otro22 He knows Chinese and now he wants to learn another
idioma. language.
22
In English, you would say “to learn >another< language.” In Spanish, you simply say “other language” or, “otro idioma”. This is the type of thing you get used to
through lots of listening and a little reading material in context.
Diego. Diego quiere empezar a estudiar un idioma. Diego. Diego wants to begin to study a language.
¿Qué idioma quiere Diego estudiar? Which language does Diego want to study?
Japonés. Él quiere estudiar japonés. Japanese. He wants to study Japanese.
¿Qué idioma? Which language?
Japonés. Japanese.
Oscar’s comment
I've met several polyglots. A polyglot is a person who is able to
speak many languages (usually five or more). They have many
things in common. For example, they are all independent learners,
they usually spend a lot of time with basic content in order to
build the foundations of the language, and many of them like to
study the same content repeatedly. So basically you are doing
pretty much the same as most polyglots!
Lección 18 Lesson 18
Día 18 Day 18
Parte 1. Texto Part 1. Text
¡Buenos días! ¿Listo? Good morning! Ready?
Diego cree que escuchar y leer mucho es bueno. Diego believes it is good to listen and read a lot.
Él quiere hablar con mucha gente de todo el He wants to speak with many people from all over the
mundo. world.
Él quiere visitar todas las capitales del mundo23. He wants to visit all of the capitals of the world.
23
In English, saying that you want to visit all the “capitals” of the world might sound a little strange, but in Spanish, it is perfectly normal. It is fun to get used to the
cultural differences that other languages have in comparison to our own language. Just keep absorbing the language and you'll transform yourself to think just like a
native Spanish speaker!
Yo puedo aprender un idioma si escucho y leo mucho. I can learn a language if I listen and read a lot.
Yo quiero hablar con mucha gente de todo el mundo. I want to talk with many people from all around the world.
También quiero visitar todas las capitales del mundo. I also want to visit all the capitals of the world.
¡Pienso que puedo hacerlo en un año! I think I can do it in one year!
Oscar’s comment
Is grammar bad? From my experience, it is not bad, but traditional
methods insist on learning (by heart) hundreds of rules and doing
tons of exercises. When we seriously started learning the grammar
of our native language at school, we already knew how to speak!
My suggestion: You can check grammar books sporadically, but
spend most of the time doing what's most important: listening,
reading, speaking and writing.
Lección 19 Lesson 19
Día 19 Day 19
Parte 1. Texto Part 1. Text
¡Hola otra vez! ¡Hello again!
24
In Spanish, to say “forever”, you say “for always” or “para siempre.”
Tú también puedes conocer gente interesante. You can also meet interesting people.
¡Buena suerte Diego! ¡Fantástico! Hasta mañana. Good luck Diego! Great! See you tomorrow!
Oscar’s comment
Do you have to be fully concentrated when you are listening?
Well, it is a good idea to stay totally focused, but it is perfectly
normal to get distracted from time to time. It's not so important.
Our brain is always learning! So don't be hard on yourself. You are
doing great! If you see that one day you are not very focused, you
can spend a bit more time doing a couple more repetitions or just
quickly review the content the day after.
Lección 20 Lesson x
Día 20 Day x
Parte 1. Texto Part 1. Text
¡Buenos días! Good morning!
Diego decide vivir en un templo japonés. Diego decides to live in a Japanese temple.
Diego pregunta dónde está el templo. Diego asks where the temple is.
Él vive en Japón durante25 muchos años. He lives in Japan for a long time.
25
In Spanish, to say “for” as in “for a long time” or “for many years”, you say “during much time” or “during many years”. In other words, you use “durante” (during)
rather than “para” (for).
No. No vive durante dos años. Él vive durante más años. Él vive No. He doesn't live there for two years. He lives there longer. He
durante muchos años. lives there for many years.
¿Vive Diego en Japón durante tres años? Does Diego live in Japan for three years?
No. No vive allí durante tres años. Él vive allí durante No. He doesn't live there for three years. He lives there for many
muchos años. years.
¿Dónde vive Diego? Where does Diego live?
En Japón. Diego vive en Japón. In Japan. He lives in Japan.
Oscar’s comment
"I don't have time for this!" Does it sound familiar? I understand
that everybody has things to do, but you can learn Spanish almost
anywhere! Are you in a line? Are you driving? Doing the dishes?
Walking the dog? Running? Cleaning? You can listen to the
lessons almost any time! A few minutes each time is enough and
it makes a difference when you add up all the time over the
course of an entire day.
Lección 21 Lesson 21
Día 21 Day 21
Parte 1. Texto Part 1. Text
Hola, ¡bienvenido! Hello, welcome!
Ahora yo sé más español que antes. Now I know more Spanish than before.
Yo puedo entender bastante bien a las personas. I can understand people well.
Puedo entender bien26, pero necesito practicar más mi español. I can understand well, but I need to practice more my Spanish.
26
Sometimes people have a hard time understanding the difference between “bien” and “bueno”. Let me explain it to you: “Bien” is the same as “well” in English. “Yo
hablo bien” means "I speak well". You wouldn't say “I speak good”. However, you wouldn't say “your Spanish is well”. You would say “your Spanish is good”, or in
Spanish, “tú español es bueno”.
Bien. Yo puedo entender bien a las personas. Well. I understand people well.
¿Quién puede entender a la gente? Who can understand people?
Yo, Felipe. Yo puedo entender a la gente. Me, Felipe. I can understand people.
Oscar’s comment
I already talked about the Q&A technique. Here an extra tip: After
a few repetitions, answering may seem easier. You can try to
answer as quickly as possible, almost immediately. You can even
try to answer very quickly with a long and complete answer. Try to
imitate my pronunciation and intonation. You can easily make it
more challenging for yourself!
Lección 22 Lesson 22
Día 22 Day 22
Parte 1. Texto Part 1. Text
Hola, ¿cómo te va? Hello, how is it going?
27
In Spanish, to say “over the internet”, “on the internet”, or “online”, you literally say “by internet”, or “por internet” in Spanish.
No. Él no es de España. Ella sí es de España. No. He is not from Spain. She is from Spain.
¿Quién es de España? Who is from Spain?
Roberta. Roberta es de España. Roberta. Roberta is from Spain
¿Hace Roberta intercambio de mensajes por internet? Does Roberta do message exchanges over the internet?

internet.
Oscar’s comment
Here's a golden rule of learning a new language: "The time spent
listening is directly connected to the speaking ability. Therefore,
the more you listen, the better you develop and enhance your
speaking abilities.". Therefore, it's not about finishing as soon as
possible, but to just accumulate hours of exposure to the
language. It is like practicing a sport. The more you practice, the
better you perform.
Lección 23 Lesson 23
Día 23 Day 23
Parte 1. Texto Part 1. Text
¡Hola amigo! ¿Cómo estás hoy? Hello my friend! How are you today?
Roberta tiene los ojos de color marrón28. Roberta has brown eyes.
Roberta es joven porque sólo tiene veinticinco años. Roberta is young because she is only twenty-five years old.
¡Roberta es muy bonita! Roberta is very beautiful!
28
In Spanish, when talking about the color of something, it's a bit different. For example, for “brown eyes”, notice that we literally say “eyes of brown color” which
means “Ojos de color marrón”. You could also say: "ojos marrones".
¿Quién tiene los ojos de color marrón? Who has brown eyes?
Roberta. Ella tiene los ojos de color marrón. Roberta. She has brown eyes.
¿Qué color? Which color?
Marrón. El color es marrón. Brown. The color is brown.
Este es el final de hoy. ¡Adiós amigo! This is today's end. Bye my friend!
Oscar’s comment
Did you know that the Spanish language is spoken by almost
more than 400 million native speakers? It is second only to
Mandarin Chinese! It is also the official language of 20 countries
and one of the fastest-growing languages in the world. It is
becoming a very important language in business. I think that
these are good "excuses" for learning it, don't you think?

Yo quiero practicar español con Roberta. I want to practice Spanish with Roberta.
Yo creo que Roberta es muy inteligente y bonita. I believe that Roberta is very intelligent and beautiful.
29
In Spanish, to say “last week”, we simply say “the past week” or “la semana pasada”.
No, no. No conocí a Diego. Conocí a Roberta. No, no. I didn't meet Diego. I met Roberta.
¿Conocí a Roberta en España? Did I meet Roberta in Spain?
No. No conocí a Roberta en España. Conocí a Roberta en internet. No. I didn't meet Roberta in Spain. I met Roberta over the internet.
¿Dónde conocí a Roberta? Where did I meet Roberta?
En internet. Over the internet.
¡Felipe también es feliz porque Roberta es bonita! Felipe is also happy because Roberta is beautiful!
Oscar’s comment
Here is an interesting fact that happens to all language students.
First it comes comprehension. You are able to understand many
words. What's peculiar is that you can't speak as well as you
understand. That's perfectly normal. At first, the vocabulary
becomes passive (you can only understand). Some time later, it
becomes, little by little, more active. The best way to activate the
vocabulary is to repeat similar content. Have you noticed that
when you listen to the same song many times, you end up
singing it?

Roberta y yo hablamos cada día en español. Roberta and I speak in Spanish every day.
Roberta me ayuda30 mucho. Roberta helps me a lot.
Nosotros hablamos de31 muchos temas32 interesantes. We speak about a lot of different topics.
30
In Spanish, we don't say “he helps me”, but rather “he me helps” or in Spanish “él me ayuda”.
31
Rather than saying that we talk “about” things, in Spanish, we say that we talk “of” things, or “hablar >de<”.
32
Even though the word “tema” ends in “a”, it is a masculine word. In other words, we say “el tema” or “los temas”.
A mí. A Felipe. Roberta me ayuda a mí. Me. Felipe. Roberta helps me.
Yo voy a mejorar mi español con ella. I am going to improve my Spanish with her.
Ahora estoy contento, ¡y voy a estar más contento! Right now I am happy, and I am going to be happier.
¡Ella es tan bonita! She is so beautiful!
Oscar’s comment
How are the lessons going? You have accumulated at least 25
hours of listening! After those days, I bet you can understand the
content much better than the first week. Imagine doing this for a
few months. You would definitely learn and master many parts of
the language! You are definitely building up the foundations of
the Spanish language in your brain! Only five days left. Go for it!

Where does the language learning occur? Many people may
think that it happens at a conscious level, since using a language
seems like an intellectual activity. However, deep learning only
happens in your subconscious.
You don't usually have to think about which words to use to
express an idea. You just say them.

Oscar’s comment
Many people try to get a native or near-native pronunciation. I
would differentiate between a clear pronunciation and sounding
like a native. Achieving a clear pronunciation means that natives
can understand you perfectly, although you don't sound exactly
like them. This is easy to achieve. Sounding like a native requires
years and from my point of view, it is not worthwhile.

Notice the ending of “finalmente”. It follows the “rule” I gave you earlier! “Finally” in English becomes “finalmente” in Spanish. Piece of cake!
37
“To wait on” is “espera a”, in other words “to wait to”, in Spanish.

Have you imagined the possibilities of speaking Spanish? You
could travel through all of South America, or meet people who
speak Spanish in the United States (There are 40 million Spanish-
speakers). You can also consider travelling to Spain, the country
where the Spanish language originates from. Getting a better job,
doing business, ...the possibilities are endless!

in Spanish, there are a few words called “false friends”. This means they may sound like an English word you know, but they are actually different. “Emocionante” is
an example. It might sound like “emotional”, or something similar, but it actually means “exciting”. Just check the translation from time to time while you're reading
and listening.
Oscar’s comment
Apart from the obvious advantages like communication, learning
a new language, like Spanish, provides superb psychological
benefits, as research shows. For example, it boosts your memory, it
delays dementia, provides more cognitive flexibility, increased
attention, you tend to be more open-minded...So these are some
good excuses to learn a new language, don't you think?

Congratulations! You have finished the course! So, what's next?
From this point, I would suggest not to stop here, and to continue
learning Spanish. Over the next few days, feel free to review parts
of the course, try to refresh what you have learned. You can just
read the content, or play the audio files randomly. All exposure to
Spanish is good.
Also, I would strongly suggest to visit [Link]
and take the next course which is specially designed for high-
beginners/low-intermediate learners. Long and funny mini-stories,
with question and answers, points of view, and more than 10
hours of audio. You will speak excellent Spanish! See you soon!
