OBJETIVOS GENERALES
Introducir al alumno en el estudio descriptivo de la sintaxis inglesa, con especial atención
al significado (semántica), y sin descuidar el aspecto morfológico.
Iniciar al alumno en el estudio científico del lenguaje, desde una perspectiva
generativista. Ayudar al alumno a incorporar y utilizar la terminología de las recientes
investigaciones lingüísticas, para luego emplear los resultados de dichas investigaciones
para mejorar su comprensión de los principios que subyacen en la estructura de la
oración.
Desarrollar estrategias tendientes a lograr autonomía en el aprendizaje.
Lograr que los alumnos sean capaces de transferir e integrar los conocimientos
adquiridos en este curso a las demás asignaturas del profesorado.
Capacitar al futuro docente para identificar aquellos puntos que necesiten una enseñanza
práctica especial
PROGRAMA ANALÍTICO: CONTENIDOS
UNIT 1: INTRODUCTION TO GRAMMAR
a) GRAMMAR. Grammar as a part of Linguistics. Related fields of knowledge. Definition
of grammar. Components of grammar. Kinds of grammar.
b) SENTENCE STRUCTURE. Properties of sentence structure. Constructions and
constituents. Phrase classes: Movement and replacement tests. Word classes.
UNIT 2: THE CLAUSE
a) DEFINITION AND CHARACTERISTICS.
b) CLASSIFICATION: According to complementation: Transitive, intransitive, ditransitive,
copular and bogus ditransitive verbs and clauses. Main and dependent clauses. Embedded
and subordinate. According to the verb element: finite, nonfinite, and verbless clauses.
According to function: nominal, adverbial, etcetera.
c) THE COMPLEX SENTENCE.
UNIT 3 - THE VERB PHRASE
a) Time, tense and aspect. Past and present tenses. Perfect and progressive aspects. Uses
of all tense-aspect combinations. Stative – dynamic contrast. Ways of referring to the future.
b) Modals. Form and meaning. Core and periphrastic modals. Action and belief
modalities.
UNIT 4 – THE NOUN PHRASE
a) The NOUN PHRASE: Definition. Grammatical functions within a NP. Types of NP.
Grammatical functions of NPs in the sentence. Propositional NP.
b) The NOUN : Definition. Form. Classification. Gender and number.
c) Determiners. The pronoun.
d) Empty noun phrases.
UNIT 5 – THE ADJECTIVAL PHRASE
a) Adjectives. Characteristics. Semantic groups. Attributive and Predicative adjectives.
b) Adjectives in other syntactic roles. Comparative and Superlative forms.
c) Comparative clauses and other complements. Formation and combination of
adjectives.
UNIT 6 – THE ADVERBIAL PHRASE AND ADVERBIALS
a) Adverbs and adverbials: characteristics and their function.
b) Semantic classification of adverbs and adverbial adjuncts.
c) Order of adverbs. Negative adverbs at the beginning of the sentence. Gradability.
UNIT 7 – THE PREPOSITIONAL PHRASE
a) Characteristics and classification of English prepositions. Prepositional complements.
b) Prepositional phrases: their function. Stranding.
c) The semantics of prepositions.
UNIT 8 – REVISION
PARTICIPACIÓN EN LOS FOROS
En referencia a la interacción en los foros, el objetivo es generar espacios de construcción
de conocimientos compartidos. Por lo tanto, el docente tendrá en cuenta tanto la
participación del alumno en los foros como así también la calidad de sus intervenciones. La
calidad de interacción educativa en los foros se basará en los siguientes criterios:
- Compartir y comparar información.
- Descubrir y explorar la disonancia o la inconsistencia entre ideas, conceptos o
declaraciones de los participantes.
- Intentar la elaboración de síntesis o modificar el conocimiento co-construido.
- Expresar acuerdos, declaraciones y aplicaciones relativos a los significados
construidos.
- Intercambiar opiniones y dirigirse al tutor y compañeros de manera amable,
respetuosa y constructiva, empleando un lenguaje apropiado al espacio formativo y
académico en el que se desarrolla la interacción.
En caso de que el alumno tenga dificultades personales para entregar trabajos prácticos o
para participar en los foros, debe contactarse con el tutor de la materia con antelación a
la fecha de entrega pautada.
TRABAJOS PRÁCTICOS
1. Los trabajos prácticos son obligatorios. Se deberá entregar el 100% de los
trabajos prácticos y aprobar al menos el 75% de los mismos para poder
regularizar la materia, por lo tanto, el alumno deberá entregar 8 trabajos
prácticos y aprobar al menos 6 (SEIS) de los mismos.
2. Los trabajos prácticos se calificarán con las notas "Excellent" "Very good"
"Good" "Narrow Pass" o "Fail."
3. La entrega dentro de los tiempos estipulados es obligatoria. Se recuerda que
el "deadline" es la fecha límite para la entrega de los trabajos o participación
en los foros; los alumnos pueden entregar los trabajos o participar en los foros
cualquier día anterior a ese.
4. De ocurrir una situación ajena a la voluntad del alumno, este podrá pedir una
prórroga en la entrega del mismo, a través de un mail al tutor antes de que
venza la fecha de entrega y nunca después del vencimiento de la misma. El
tutor evaluará la posibilidad de otorgar la prórroga y se dará prórroga en no
más de 4 (cuatro) trabajos durante toda la cursada.
5. Todos los archivos de audio o de texto que se suban a la plataforma para su
corrección deberán ser nombrados de la siguiente forma: materia -unidad
nro. - apellido - fecha de entrega, por ejemplo:
Grammar - Unit 1 - García - 19th August.
Esta nomenclatura agiliza el trabajo del tutor por lo que será obligatorio
aplicarla al entregar los Trabajos Prácticos y Parciales.
6. El único medio a utilizar para el envío de trabajos prácticos y foros es el
campus. Ningún trabajo práctico enviado por mail podrá ser aceptado.
EXAMEN FINAL
Los alumnos que hayan REGULARIZADO la materia estarán en condiciones de rendir el
examen final. Dicho examen será solamente escrito, y constará de una parte PRÁCTICA con
ejercicios similares a los realizados durante la cursada y otra TEÓRICA, en la cual deberán
responder preguntas y brindar ejemplos. La nota de aprobación es 6 (seis).
