ROUTINES
SIMPLE PRESENT (affirmative)
The Simple Present Tense in English is used to describe routines and habits. (El presente simple lo usamos para
hablar de rutinas y habitos)
So, what is a routine? It is a typical or everyday activity. Example: Get up and get dressed. (Levantarte y
vestirte)
Now, what is a habit? It is something you do regularly, it can be good or bad. Example: Make your bed
everyday ( Hacer tu cama todos los días es un hábito bueno) - Smoke ( Fumar es un hábito malo).
Sentence structure: (Cómo escribimos oraciones positivas en el presente simple)
Personal Pronouns Affirmative sentences
● I ● I READ a comic everyday. (yo leo un cómic todos los días)
● YOU ● You READ a comic everyday. (vos lees un cómic todos los días)
● WE ● My dad and I READ a comic everyday. (Mi papá y yo leemos un cómic todos los
(nosotros/as) días)
● THEY ● Becky and Sue READ a comic everyday. (Becky y Sue leen un comic todos los
(ellos/as) días)
(el verbo no cambia, no sufre ninguna modificación)
● HE (él) ● Peter READS a comic everyday. (Peter lee un cómic todos los días)
● SHE (ella) ● Susan READS a
comic everyday. (Susan lee un cómic todos días)
● IT ● The artificial child READS a comic everyday. ( El niño artificial lee un libro todos
(cosa/animal) los días)
(con los sujetos HE, SHE, IT el verbo cambia)
Rules for SHE, HE and IT (Reglas para cuando hacemos oraciones con los sujetos ella, él y cosa/animal).
1. If the verb ends in letters O, S, SH, C
H, X
or Z, we add ES. (si el verbo termina en las letras O, S, SH, CH,
X, ó Z vamos a agregar ES al final)
Example:
I go to the sport centre. You watch tv. We wash our faces. They k iss their mother.
He goes to the sport centre. She watches tv. My dog washes its face. My cat kisses m

2. If the verb ends in a consonant + Y e remove the letter y and add IES. (si el verbo termina en una
consonante seguida de una Y, sacamos la letra -y- y agregamos IES).
Example: FLY (volar)
I fly a kite.
He flies a kite.
3. If the verb ends in a vowel + Y, we add a letter S. (si el verbo termina en una vocal seguida de una Y,
agregamos una S).
Example:
You play [Link]
plays basketball.
*note: For the verbs ending in other letters, we only add S.(para los verbos que terminan en otras letras solo
agregamos una S).
Example: w ork, run, swim, etc…
❖ Attention!! The verb have and the verb to be do not follow the previous rules!!! (el verbo have y el verbo to be
no siguen las reglas anteriores!!!) USAMOS HAVE para I, YOU, WE, THEY y HAS para she, he, it.
★ In the Simple Present Tense, we use adverbs of frequency or time expressions to say how often the
action is repeated.(Usamos los adverbios de frecuencia o expresiones de tiempo para decir que tan seguido se
repite la acción, rutina o hábito).
Adverbs of Frequency Time Expressions
100% Always (siempre) On + day+s : On Mondays, On tuesdays, etc.(los lunes, los martes, etc)
75% Usually (usualmente)
50% Often (a menudos) Parts of the day: In the morning (en la mañana),
25% Sometimes (a veces) in the afternoon (a la tarde 12pm a 5pm),
0% Never (nunca) in the evening (a la tarde, 5pm en adelante),
at night (a la noche).
note: Adverbs of frequency go after the
main verb or before the verb to be. (Los Once +a week, a month, a year. (una vez a la semana, mes, año)
adverbios van antes de los verbos o Twice + a week, a month, a year (dos veces a la semana, mes, año)
después del verbo to be) Three times + a week, a month, a year. (3 veces a la semana, al mes, al año)
I ALWAYS do my homework.
I am ALWAYS early for work. Every + day (Every monday, every friday)
Everyday (todos los días)
note: Time expressions usually go at the beginning or at the end.(al principio de la
oracion o al final van)
1- Choose the correct verb (Elige el verbo
correcto)
Every day, I get up at 7 o’clock in the
morning. Then, I ___ breakfast. After
that, I always ___ a shower and ____

At 8 o’clock, I ___ to work and I ____
at 9 o’clock. I ____ lunch at 1pm in the
afternoon. I never _____ my work at 5

exhausted after a long day!
2- Write down time expression and
adverbs of frequency that appears in the
text

3- Now rewrite the text using the subject pronoun SHE. (Reescribir el párrafo usando el pronombre ELLA, NO
olvides aplicar las reglas!!)
Every day, she gets up at 7 o’clock in the morning….
SIMPLE PRESENT (NEGATIVE)
Sentence structure: (Cómo escribimos oraciones negativas en el presente simple)
We form the negative of the simple present by using the auxiliaries D ON'T and DOESN'T. (Formamos el
negativo del presente simple, usando los auxiliares don’t and doesn’t.
I, You, We, They → DON´T
He, She, It → DOESN’T (Después del auxiliar no usamos las reglas que aprendimos la clase anterior, en realidad el
auxiliar es DO pero como termina en O, le agregamos E
S y se forma DOES, digamos que el auxiliar toma “prestado” o le
“roba” la regla del verbo)
Personal pronouns NEGATIVE SENTENCES
● I ● I don’t go to school actually. (Yo no voy a
l colegio actualmente)
● YOU ● You don’t have breakfast. (Vos no desayunas)
● WE ● We don’t play baseball in the evenings. ( Nosotros no jugamos al baseball por las tardes)
● THEY ● They don’t play with dolls. (Ellas no juegan con muñecas)
● HE ● Steve doesn’t drink_ milk. (Steve no bebe leche)
● SHE ● Helen doesn’t play the piano. (Helen no toca el piano)
● IT ● My cat doesn’t eat birds. (Mi gato no come pájaros)
note: Observen como después del doesn’t el verbo que sigue no lleva s, es. NO CAMBIAN!!!
4- Complete with don’t and doesn’t. (Prestar atencion al sujeto!!!)
Example: Tom doesn’t collect stamps.
