I hope you guys dug this first part of our cool two-part story featuring art by Invincible co-creator CORY WALKER. | gotta say, it's really cool to have Cory working on this book again for the first time since issue 60. This is his first full issue since issue 6, so it's kind of cool that he's back for issue 66. We'll be sure to get him back for issue 666, too. We brought Dave in because we thought it was only far to give FCO a break since we were giving Ryan and Clif a break and man did we ‘swing for the fences. You may know Dave from every cool comic ever published that wasn't colored by Dave Stewart. I's an honor to have you on board here, Dave. Thanks for agreeing to this wild ride we've put you on, Don't worry, Ryan, Clif, FCO and the gang are hard at work on Invincible 6 right now, making on-time in 2010 a possibilty, so we ‘won't be missing any ship dates any time soon. What an issue! | always thought Eve was dead because of the cover of issue #65 — she was nowhere to be found and since Conquest punched a whole in her. Ouch, but guess we were all wrong ‘The part where Mark bites Conquests neck was reminiscent of The Walking Dead. | alvays wanted a zombie Invincibie. But after seeing Darkest Knight from DC | quess the supermero zombies are being played out Waiting to hear what's new from image at San Diego Comic Con ("San Diego Comic BOOK Con" —Aubrey)— too bad | couldn't be there to get some comics signed. No Kirkman swag contest? Contests are fun, but a giant pain in the ass—so no. Sorry. {do have questions: {With you being a partner at image Comics, does that mean we will ‘never see you collaborate with any other company lke Marvel or DC? Not to wnt for them but to have a image/Marvel release, or an “invincible beats the hell out of Superman’ issue? {ve never really gone out of my way to contact anyone at Marvel, (0 DC to see if they'd be interested in doing a crossover. I grounds the comic, and brings ita realistic, wsceral feel, whichis definitely much appreciated when so few comics go that far. And how amazing are Ryan ‘and FCO? The detail and expressions are phenomenal. It kinda feels lke you were apologizing for the gore inthe book [Link] is that? | can tell by some of these letters that not everyone feels the same way about what you have dane lately (in terms ofthe violence), but why would you put a cap on the gore? ‘Are you afraid of scaring some people away? Scaring people away? No. But | am concemed that 've already used the “gore button” so much that its lst all impact. $0, for that reason, I'l back off it fr as long as possible. There's no denying that this book is violent at this pont. i's somewhat realistic and its something you can’t REALLY gt from Marvel and DC (forthe ‘most part so thnk it makes the book stand out a bit and i's fun for Ryan and |, BUT, it's never done just to be shocking, i's done {ora reason, to raise the stakes, o tll the reader, THIS 1S SERIOUS. Things lke Mark and Notan's fis ight, Allen's dismemberment, Oliver's slaughter ofthe Mauler Twins and the Conquest battle are all done fora reason, and all ead to important long-lasting things for the series. They're meant to help those scenes be memorable and unique... but if there's one of those in every damn issue...it loses its impact. So|'m backing off for litle bit, ike | always do after really gory issues... except issues 52-64...heh. thik the best part about Conquest is that ite story had 90 many good, layered elements, ll working together seamlessly. You have amazing (and yes, gory) action sequences coupied with strong, emotional backarop thats essential to te ong running narrative. Other people may read it because they like the characters or the action, [read it to let me know that | nave real human emotions, and that | have not become some sot of soulless rbot. | mean seriously, you do some horrible things to your characters. Fst it was Kid Omni-Man tearing those twin vilains apart. Then it was that supervillain who inadvertently ‘destroyed his family. Finally it was that terrible thing that Conquest did to ‘Alom Eve lst issue. (kay, so she's back (but how}, but this was seriously the gorest comic bok I've ever read, Please continue with the fantastic wring and characters, Don't get me wrong, | think that this arc has been very well ‘done. Ryan drew it perfectly | hadn't pictured how big Monster Girl's hands are in relation to Robot's head so it tumed out way better than | ever imagined.
