A. Subject Description:
Purposive Communication is writing, speaking, and understanding presentations through multimedia to different audiences
and for various purposes.
B. Objectives:
At the end of the course, you should be able to:
1. Show an adequate level of communication skills in English – listening, reading, speaking, and writing.
a. speaking and writing: complete thoughts, main idea and evidences, reflections, conventions: sentence sense,
paragraph cohesion, mechanics.
b. listening and reading: taking notes – outline, highlights, graphic organizers; asking questions and giving
feedback
2. Understand the purposes of different structures of texts, and so be able speak and write for different
purposes/audiences in a short essay format: narrative, opinion, persuasive, informational/research, process,
compare and contrast, satire.
3. Recognize and exhibit awareness of tools for effective communication including appropriate use of
language, illustrations, and images, use of PowerPoint presentations, and sensitivity to personal/cultural
differences.

F. Grading System:
The Final Grade is computed as follows:
𝐹𝑖𝑛𝑎𝑙𝐺𝑟𝑎𝑑𝑒 = [0.33 × (1𝑠𝑡𝑃𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑜𝑑𝐺𝑟𝑎𝑑𝑒)] + [0.33 × (2𝑛𝑑𝑃𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑜𝑑𝐺𝑟𝑎𝑑𝑒)] + [0.34 × (3𝑟𝑑𝑃𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑜𝑑𝐺𝑟𝑎𝑑𝑒)]
● Provide details on how to compute the grades per period. The weights could differ per period (ex. Quizzes = 30%
for First Period but only 20% for Second Period).
● Completeness of Student Portfolio should be at least 20% of each term grade.
● DON’T include attendance and behavior in the grading system.
