PHOTOGRAPHIC ESSAY ABOUT SELF
This project is to create a photo essay that describes who you are. In your photo essay, please take
new photographs or imagery that describe how you see yourself. To do this, take or have someone
else take FIVE NEW DIGITAL IMAGES THAT TELL WHO YOU ARE. You can be in some or all of
the photographs, if you wish. Please note, these are to be new images, taken specifically for this
project. Do not include old photos such as prom pictures or childhood photographs. The
photographs you take for your photo-essay can be of anything, just as long as they tell something
about who you currently are. Keep in mind that the photographs should describe how you see
yourself and who you are as a person.
When you have a set of FIVE photos that you are satisfied with, print them on sheets of paper (you
can use up to FIVE sheets of paper, if you want—one for each photograph—or if you want to save
paper, you can print up to three or four photographs on each sheet of paper). Write or print a
caption next to each photograph that describes what the photograph shows. Remember, each
photograph should tell something about you, as you see yourself.
The final pages should consist of a brief typed essay that discusses how the set of FIVE
photographs/images does or does not capture who you are. This essay is a kind of self-analysis in
relation to your photographs. The essay should be 1 ½ to 2 ½ pages in length, with standard font size
(12 points), standard fonts (Times New Roman or Courier), 1-inch margins. The essay should be
double-spaced and have no extra spaces between paragraphs.
When you have printed out your photographs and essay, create a title page (the first page) that lists
your name, class and class time, and student ID number, and staple all the pages together (the title
page, the pages with photographs and captions, and the pages with your final essay). DO NOT PUT
THESE PAGES IN A PLASTIC OR PAPER BINDER. JUST STAPLE THE SHEETS TOGETHER,
AS YOU WOULD FOR A REGULAR PAPER.

evaluation dimensions. I want you to evaluate your draft on these five dimensions. Print the writing
rubric out and attach it as the last page of your paper.
