offer real-time information about the course of the journey, which can be accessed
via all available information media. This naturally also includes timetable deviations
and alternative suggestions.
Fahrgäste erwarten entlang ihres gesamten Reiseprozesses aktuelle, zuverlässige
und verständliche Informationen – von der Planung bis zur Ankunft am Ziel. Durch

Thanks to the scalability of the system architecture, both nationwide or regionally clearly defined as well

as single-station systems can be controlled. The passenger information system provides passengers
with comprehensive and up-to-date information in long-distance and regional transport as well as public
transport. A user-friendly organisation and simple operability enable travellers to find customised offers
and attractive alternatives in the shortest possible time. By automating the process, suitable solutions,
including connections and running times, are calculated by the system itself.
In addition to displays and announcement systems, third-party applications can also be integrated into
the passenger information system. The linking up of different means of transport and providers makes
mobility environmentally friendly and fit for the future.
Dank der Skalierbarkeit der Systemarchitektur sind sowohl landesweite oder regional klar umrissene
als auch Ein-Bahnhof-Systeme steuerbar. Das Fahrgastinformationssystem ermöglicht den Reisenden
eine umfassende und aktuelle Information im Fern- und Regionalverkehr sowie dem ÖPNV. Eine nutzer-
freundliche Organisation und einfache Bedienbarkeit ermöglichen den Reisenden passgenaue Angebote
und attraktive Alternativen in kürzester Zeit zu finden. Durch die Automatisierung des Prozesses werden
geeignete Lösungen, inklusive Anschlüssen und Laufzeiten, vom System selbst berechnet.
Neben Anzeigern und Ansagesystemen können auch Applikationen von Drittanbietern in das Fahrgastin-
formationssystem integriert werden. Die Vernetzung verschiedener Verkehrsmittel und -anbieter macht

The passenger information software from Funkwerk provides a structured overview of the entire operational and
system situation. The train identification, train information and the current status of the train in relation to the station
are displayed in semi-graphic form and colour-coded. With up to four monitors at the operator workstation, detec-
tion and targeted intervention in the event of operational disruptions can be carried out quickly. Announcement and
display jobs can be archived for the purpose of proof or quality control. The system also includes extensive diagnostic
tools for targeted fault localisation.
Die Fahrgastinformationssoftware von Funkwerk bietet eine strukturierte Übersicht über die gesamte Betriebs- und
Systemlage. In semigrafischer Form und farblicher Codierung werden die Zugidentifikation, Zuginformationen und
der aktuelle Status des Zuges in Relation zur Station dargestellt. Mit den bis zu vier Monitoren am Bedienarbeits-
platz kann das Erkennen und gezielte Eingreifen bei Betriebsstörungen schnell erfolgen. Zum Zwecke des Nach-
weises oder der Qualitätsüberprüfung lassen sich Ansage- und Anzeigeaufträge archivieren. Außerdem umfasst das
System umfangreiche Diagnosetools zur gezielten Störungseingrenzung.

As soon as the server system is set up, further stations, local components or ad-

ditional platforms can be added via licence releases. The Funkwerk server system is
openly programmed so that the operator can flexibly and independently set up, adapt
and expand the system, as all devices, control stations and sensors are connected via
IP networks.
The passenger information software is run as a highly available dual computer system
in hot standby. All data is located on both servers for complete redundancy, so that
if the active system fails, the standby system can continue operation within a few se-
conds. The system's resources are therefore available in duplicate.
Sobald das Serversystem eingerichtet ist, können weitere Stationen, lokale Kompo-
nenten oder zusätzliche Bahnsteige über Lizenzfreischaltungen hinzugefügt werden.
Das Serversystem von Funkwerk ist offen programmiert, sodass der Betreiber flexibel
und eigenständig Einrichtungen, Anpassungen und Erweiterungen vornehmen kann,
da alle Geräte, Bedienplätze und Sensoren über IP-Netzwerke angebunden sind.
Die Fahrgastinformationssoftware wird als hochverfügbares Doppelrechnersystem
im Hot-Standby geführt. Alle Daten befinden sich für eine vollständige Redundanz auf
beiden Servern, sodass bei einem Ausfall des aktiven Systems das Standby-System in-
nerhalb weniger Sekunden den Betrieb fortsetzen kann. Die Ressourcen des Systems
sind also in doppelter Ausführung vorhanden.

In addition to passenger information during normal operation, information in exceptional

situations is also automated to the greatest possible extent. Relevant information is bundled,
evaluated and transmitted by the system. Data such as delays and platform alterations are
taken from operator sources or derived from current process data (such as GPS and train
stop sensors). Connection calculations are carried out automatically on the basis of the cur-
rent operating situation, taking into account the direction of travel and the calculation of the
transition time between platforms. Current train running data can also be transferred from
other control centres.
Neben der Fahrgastinformation im störungsfreien Betrieb ist auch die Auskunft in Aus-
nahmesituationen weitestgehend automatisiert. Relevante Informationen werden durch
das System gebündelt, ausgewertet und übermittelt. Daten wie z.B. Verspätungen und
Gleiswechsel werden aus Betreiberquellen übernommen oder aus aktuellen Prozessdaten
(wie GPS und Zughaltesensoren) abgeleitet. Anschlussberechnungen erfolgen automatisch
anhand der aktuellen Betriebslage, unter Fahrtrichtungsberücksichtigung und der Berech-
nung der Übergangslaufzeit zwischen den Bahnsteigen. Auch aus anderen Leitzentralen
können aktuelle Zuglaufdaten übernommen werden.

For the operator, the high degree of automation means a reduction in the workload of the staff, especially in the event of
deviations during regular operation. An information manager monitors, checks and directs the entire process for passenger
information. In the user-friendly system, additional, special and replacement trains can be created manually quickly and
easily – so that information can be transmitted to the passenger quickly. A timetable subsystem with input functions allows
changes to train-related properties and timetables to be made in just a few deliberately simple steps. Annual, dispatch and
daily timetables can be switched through the simplified timetable management and maintenance. It is also possible to over-
lap construction site periods via the regular timetable.
Für den Betreiber bedeutet der hohe Automatisierungsgrad eine Entlastung des Personals, insbesondere auch bei Abwei-
chungen im Regelbetrieb. Ein Informationsmanager überwacht, prüft und lenkt das gesamte Geschehen zu Fahrgastinfor-
mationen. Im bedienungsfreundlichen System sind Zusatz-, Sonder- und Ersatzzüge schnell und einfach manuell erstell-
bar – so können Informationen rasch an den Fahrgast übermittelt werden. Ein Fahrplansubsystem mit Eingabefunktionen
erlaubt die Änderungen von zuglaufbezogenen Eigenschaften und Fahrplänen mit nur wenigen, bewusst einfach gehalten
Schritten. Jahres-, Dispo- und Tagesfahrpläne lassen sich durch die vereinfachte Fahrplanverwaltung und -pflege schalten.
Ebenso sind Überlagerungen von Baustellenperioden über den Regelfahrplan möglich.

All information about time, place and direction of arrival and departure of all means of transport is clearly and comprehensibly desig-
ned. For the information displays, this means appropriate lighting, colouring and clear recognition, e.g. through the use of pictograms
and multilingualism. For passengers with disabilities, appropriate solutions for inclusion are also offered, such as information steles
with a read-aloud function for the visually impaired. These are of course designed to be TSI-PRM compliant. The module for the dynamic
output of carriage status information of the respective train on the platform on electronic carriage status indicators provides up-to-date
information about 1st class, seat distribution and the boarding points for wheelchair and bicycle users.
Jede Information über Zeit, Ort und Richtung von Ankunft und Abfahrt aller Verkehrsmittel ist klar und verständlich gestaltet. Für die
Informationsanzeigen bedeutet das eine entsprechende Beleuchtung, Färbung und deutliche Erkennbarkeit, z.B. durch Benutzung von
Piktogrammen und Mehrsprachigkeit. Für Fahrgäste mit Behinderung werden darüber hinaus entsprechende Lösungen zur Inklusion
angeboten, wie z.B. Infostelen mit Vorlesefunktion für Sehbehinderte. Diese sind selbstverständlich TSI-PRM-konform konstruiert. Das
Modul für die dynamische Ausgabe von Wagenstandsinformationen des jeweiligen Zuges am Bahnsteig auf elektronischen Wagenstands-
anzeigern bietet aktuelle Informationen über die 1. Klasse, Sitzplatzverteilung und die Zustiege für Rollstuhl- und Fahrradfahrer.

Generally, displays, monitors, pillars and video walls of various technologies,

such as TFT, LCD and LED, are used for visual passenger information. Accor-
ding to the operator's specifications, the design of the displays is developed
on the basis of a standardised hardware platform. Special design requests
can be developed and realised through close cooperation with a specialised
design office.
Generell werden für die visuelle Fahrgastinformation Anzeiger, Monitore,
Stelen und Videowände der verschiedensten Technologien, wie TFT, LCD und
LED, genutzt. Entsprechend den Vorgaben des Betreibers wird das Design
der Anzeiger auf Basis einer standardisierten Hardwareplattform entwickelt.
Besondere Designwünsche können durch die enge Zusammenarbeit mit
einem spezialisierten Designbüro erarbeitet und realisiert werden.

Funkwerk has developed its own IP-based public address system: Information an-

nouncements can be automatically adapted to the ambient conditions: when there
is a lot of activity at large stations, the public address system is significantly louder
than at night at small stations.
An additional modern announcement module enables the operator to use text-to-
speech technology for flexible and convenient output in addition to the previous
method of voice module composition. By means of IP connections, the require-
ments for the feasibility of live announcements at all connected stations are also
taken care of.
Funkwerk hat ein eigenes IP-basisertes Beschallungssystem entwickelt: Informa-
tionsansagen sind darüber automatisch an die Umgebungsbedingungen adaptier-
bar: bei viel Betrieb an großen Bahnhöfen erfolgt die Beschallung deutlich lauter
als nachts an kleinen Bahnhöfen.
Ein zusätzliches modernes Ansagemodul ermöglicht dem Betreiber neben der
bisherigen Methode der Sprachbausteinzusammensetzung die flexible und kom-
fortable Ausgabe mittels der Text-to-Speech-Technologie. Mittels IP-Verbindungen
wird außerdem den Anforderungen an die Durchführbarkeit von Liveansagen an
allen angeschlossenen Stationen Sorge getragen.

the platform are also warned automatically and reliably with an
announcement in the event of through-trains. In this way, the
passenger information system ensures passenger safety.
Die Ansage erfolgt immer in angemessener Geschwindigkeit,
teilweise wird sie in mehreren Sprachen ausgegeben. Auch bei
Durchfahrten werden Reisende am Bahnsteig vollautomatisch
zeitgerecht und zuverlässig mit einer Ansage gewarnt. So ge-
währleistet das Fahrgastinformationssystem die Sicherheit der
Fahrgäste. 17
