Accusative
What is the Accusative Case?
The accusative case is used in German to indicate the direct object of a sentence — the person or thing
receiving the action.
Example:
Ich sehe den Hund. (I see the dog.)
Here, den Hund is in the accusative case because the dog is receiving the action of "seeing."

1. haben (to have)
Ich habe einen Hund. (I have a dog.)

3. mögen (to like)
Wir mögen die Katze. (We like the cat.)
4. kaufen (to buy)
Er kauft ein Buch. (He buys a book.)
5. brauchen (to need)
Ich brauche einen Stift. (I need a pen.)

These prepositions always take the accusative case:
durch (through)
für (for)
gegen (against)
ohne (without)
um (around)
Examples:
Er geht durch den Park. (He goes through the park.)
Das Geschenk ist für dich. (The gift is for you.)
Tips:
The masculine articles change in the accusative case (e.g., der → den, ein → einen).
Feminine, neuter, and plural articles stay the same.
