IMPORTANCE OF
THE INTERSTATE
SYSTEM
The interstate system is important because it is
anarchic—meaning there is no single world
government or authority above states.
● Unlike politics inside a country, relations
between states happen in a "state of nature,"
where each nation must look out for itself.
● In this anarchic system, countries always
face possible threats.
● That’s why their main goal is
security—protecting themselves and
ensuring survival.
PURPOSES OF GLOBAL INTERSTATE
SYSTEM
01 Stimulate economic progress and world trade.
02 Providing a platform to compare policy experiences.
Seeking answers to common problems involving
03
member states.
Identify good practices and coordinate the domestic
04
and international policies of its members.
ANY
QUESTIONS OR
CLARIFICATIO
NS?
In an anarchic world
system, where no single
authority exists, is it better
for nations to focus on
defense or on
cooperation? Why?

MODULE:

“In an anarchic world
system—where no single
authority rules—nations
must protect themselves, yet
true security comes when
they choose to work
together.”
